Default Does it get any stupider than this?

Have a read of this story re: the Rally of GB and a speed camera that was set up & caught over 2000 people.
The most amusing part is word perfect of these dorks we have over here talking the same crap......"this is a particularly dangerous stretch of road" Sure it is...and how many accidents were there on it whilst 2000 drivers were speeding????
That's something they don't mention; I wonder why?

Don't get me started about speed camaras over here! Luckily in my neck of the woods there isn't too many. Yet. But, there is a strip of road in Blackpool just up the coast with 3 Gatso's in a half mile stretch! Why? Well all in the name of road safety you understand..........Nowt to do with

I have been seeing a lot more 'mobile revenue gethering units' , on the road here in NZ. they're starting to get quite sneaky now .

my advice to all is to invest in a Valentine VL1 , mine must have saved me $100's by now not that i would break the law of course

Well not sure if you folk in the other states got the news on the wireless yet,

but over here in melbourne all our speed cameras will have to be re-checked, as

some of these cameras have been putting out bogus speeding fines eg datsun

And just yesterday a Semi got done going UPHILL flashed doing 170km/h (well I think that's what I heard).

Those new trucks must be bloody powerful, especialy when there electronicaly limited to 110km/h

Apparantly there is NOTHING wrong with there $afety cameras though ...

We have sh!+loads of 'em in Ballarat. ALWAYS parked on downhill slopes (for safety sake of course). I never thought this mattered until a few nights ago, I was forced to drive my MIL's Hyundi excel. I had to BRAKE down every single hill, no matter how small the gradient was. You see you lift off the accelerator and the car still rolls upto 65km/h. It's only possible to hold speed on dead flat roads (uphills it dies cos it's gutless )

Could it be that girl that was on ACA a few months ago? They had a professional race driver test the car on a racetrack and it was flat out getting to 150 km/h.

That Semi was one of Lindsay Fox's, supposedly 170kph uphill in the Burnley tunnel, and from the pic shown in peak traffic, go figure.
Yes UFO that was the Datsun.

They had to do something about all the NSW ones a while ago i remember. Im not sure if you can argue about them anymore though after they fixed them up!

The real problem though is the fact they don't accept a nice letter anymore explaining the circumstances, you need a lawyer in the family to get yu off these days!

Could it be that in traffic, and from a standing start uphill, if it rolled backwards a little? With axles so close together, and if the truck rolls back a little, one axle hits the first sensor, and a split second later, the next axle forward hits the second sensor? The computer isn't smart enough to work out what's going on, and thinks it's one axle going quickly? Is this possible, or are the sensors too close together for even this?

Faulty equipment or not .. you would think they would look at the fine and the picture and say "Nah, not possible" - take the human element out of things and you may reduce some mistakes, but you only amplify the large ones.

    Ode to Bracksy

    We voted Jeffery Kennett,
    To repent for Labour sins,
    He made the state financial,
then we kicked him in the shins,

    He gave us Melbourne GP
    He gave us Riders cup,
But when it came to voting,
    we voted "times up chump"

    Instead we voted Bracksy
    Mr Honest Mr True
But its only taken 4 short years
to get us back in poo,

    He spent all Jeffereys surplus,
and put us in the red
    But Haermeyer's got it figured,
    "we'll put cameras over head"

    We'll call them safety cameras,
    and as you'll plainly see
    They will resurect,
    our stuffed economy...

    mistareno......
(no Sir.....I dont think it's fair that you got booked for doing 4 kph over the limit.......But you'll have to understand sir, I dont hang off the Ring Road with a Radar taking happy snaps... )

Apparently the Vic government is suspending use of fixed revenue raisers till the can sort out the problems.
Theres an easy way of fixing them and all you need is a shotty or baseball bat

A can of expanding foam works well .. it's also usually flamable when still wet.

The one thing that will be a positive from this fiasco, is that motorists
will finally have some confidence in challenging these unreliable camera
"revenue raisers" in court rather than meekly paying the Brax Tax!

That is of course the one thing that will prevent the spread of those cameras as the cost will eat into the revenue raised. Of course then the Government will try to subborn the courts to increase fines "in the name of road safety" rather than using commonsense to provide sympathetic Justice.

A few years ago I was present in a court and heard a motorist dispute a speeding fine (they had 10 per cent tolerance then, also) He just told the magistrate that he didn't know what his actual speed was but he didn't think he was speeding, and that he had been driving 30 years without any offence.

The magistrate felt that even though the motorist could not dispute the speed, he deserved some discount due to his previous unblemished driving record and therefore fined him $40 instead of the $120 or $140 fine that had been levied.

I support the independence of magistrates to use their nouse in cases like this, just as I support the police use of their discretion where the evidence / plea warrants its use. Unfortunately speed cameras have a totally unrealistic percentage and no discretion on the circumstances of each individual case where a person strays over the limit.

You can of course "write a letter asking for compassion/ forgiveness" (which has only been publicly disclosed since the faulty cameras embarrassed the government) and plead your case.

This "sounds" like it may provide some compassion, BUT have you tried to plead a parking ticket with a Council official - standard answer is NO! (doesn't matter if you have a valid point or legal issue) until you elect to take the matter to court, and then they hold off till they can see costs will be awarded - theory is of course the average person will give up and pay rather than go to court even when they are obviously not guilty of any offence!!

Full marks to my son who has taken two such illegal tickets to the point of appearing at court and only then did they capitulate. So any dream of compassion from Beaurocracy bent on protecting their revenue is just that "a dream"

Keep on fighting Alan S and Mistarenno love your poem!
