OK demerit points ... a topic dear to your hearts.

I know this doesn't account for years on the road, some people on AussieFrogs will have 40+ years of driving ... but remember they did the majority of these in times without speed cameras, speed lasers and red light cameras. I've only got 15 years of driving experience ... enough though.

    Be honest ...

funny you should bring this up as i only dug out my driving record the other day
in my early days i lost my right to drive twice
i had been booked for speeding 6 times and not wearing a seat belt a few other times
i now haven't been booked for anything in the past 5 years so hopefully next year i should qualify for my gold license

    Hmm,

license points has never been my problem. The paying of the fines has been my only concern. I think I have lost some points, though I was never told, as I got done for speeding once when driving to the arse end of the planet.

I think youre thinking of Bendigo, a yobbo infested cesspit which I was very happy to leave FOREVER!! Ballarat is quite a nice town.

If you like Ballarat, you must like living in a fridge! I do agree about Bendigo, i attended Tafe p/t doing Assoc/dip Electronics '92-97, while living in Castlemaine then Kyneton, it appeared to me to be single mum city.

Me, I like it cold. I would like to spend a year in Norway one day.
I have never had any points, as I have been VERY careful to see that I didn't. That and the fact that if you speed in an old Transit you are off your head

I am from Bendigo, and I'd have to agree that there are alot of young single mums, however there are some good parts out of town, but stay away from eaglehawke, long gully a.k.a bong gully, and white hills, these are the very bad areas. I am going to bribie Island in QLD for the next two months so I'll miss the worst part of the year here.

My first speeding ticket was in my Renault 750 at the bottom of a steep hill just past the 30 mph (yes - mph!) sign.

I agree with you re Lithgow - it really is the pits. When the best place to go is Maccas it must be desperate.

However Mudgee is coming along quite nicely these days, especially if you go to the Butchershop Coffee Shop in the main street.

Junee is not so bad, the Roundhouse Rail Museum is worth a stop and look.

    Melbourne is, well, Melbourne.

Now back to the topic, you don't LOSE demerit points, you ACCRUE demerit points.

Should have seen the look one day here at work when people were comparing notes. They asked how many points I had and I replied ZERO. There was lots of huffing and puffing from the rest of the crew and comments that I should not be driving etc. When I then explained to them that you accrue points etc, there was the usual comments of "bloody smart arse" etc.

    Good point John

I find it hard to believe that more than 40% of AussieFroggers are Goody Two Shoes.

I chose to answer the poll honestly and discovered that I fall into the "me bad" category....

PS. My insurance company knows about my two speeding offences committed in the last 5 years, but I still got a nice cheap premium for comprehensive insurance on the 504 and the Fuego. Shannons, by the way.

I reckon the coldest place would be on top of Mt Canobolas in the middle of winter. Broke down in a mate's VW while we were up there looking at Halley's Comet in winter 1986. We had to walk all the way back into Orange as it was about 3am and no one else was around. The other coldest place I've lived /worked would have to be Oberon.

Last time I've been fined for any traffic offence was the day Australia won the America's Cup (1983?). I turned right at a no right turn sign that had been put up 2 days before!

I put it down to some luck and good management. Keep your eyes open and speed only where it is safe and where you know you have a good chance of getting away with it!

There is such a thing as safe speeding!

    Ralph.

7 years driving, caught speeding once, $250 fine and 4 points (last month). Apparently they'd "just" upped all the fines and demerit points (QLD). Lucky me!
