    Default Antipollution

Citroen C4 HDi 1.6 115000km 2006 model. On Friday my wife was driving her car when the engine light came and a stop antipollution warning came up. On Saturday the car came to a stop as if fuel had cut out. After two attempts to restart the car it started, after that the warning came up as antipollution. After reading a posting AF 'wanted to buy' 19th April 2011; a container of additive from a wrecked car, I decided I would take the car to a friend who has a hoist to check the level of the additive tank. When I started the car the engine light and warning did not come up, everything was clear. There is no additive tank on this model car.
Any advice as to what the problem could have been?

Cars are now like computers and phones. Every one of them seems to develop an electronic fault from time to time. All of them seem to be cured by turning them off and restarting.

Has worked for me so far with my C4 HDi (2006 model), PC, work desktop, iPhone, . . . . . . .

[C4 also has 115K on clock]

It's obviously a manual and has no particle filter. Even if it did, a low Eolys level shouldn't prevent it from starting. Start by checking whether the fuel filter is blocked. When was it last changed?

The car is regularly serviced by a Citroen specialist, but that is a moot point as to whether the filters have actually been changed. i looked on youtube to find how to change the air filter and pollen filter and will be checking those soon. It seems that antipollution can be anything to do with intake, exhaust and fuel delivery.

You need to look at the actual faults being recorded to help find the problem. You might also check the turbo air piping and look for split seals that may allow boost loss.

The C4 uses a sealed fuel filter cartridge that's relatively expensive to buy. It may be worth thinking about a generic filter added before that to extend it's life, particularly if there's a chance of a dirty fuel fill.

The problem with engine stopping and antipollution has been rectified. Not long back (12th March) I posted a warning on a certain type of oil that had a note on the label about not to be used in particulate filter motors. I finally found some Total recommended oil and did the oil and filter change myself. I have not had a problem since. What I believe is that the Citroen service centre in Perth is using the wrong oil, as it services other makes of cars that it sells.
How do we know what type of oil is being used in our cars?
The question needs to be asked, as the Marque's reliability is being questioned.
