    Icon2 Tow Bar Advice please

    Hi,
I need a towbar for a Fiat Punto.... yes I know it is not french but since Renault does not offer its competitor in the Australian market or a local dealer I purchased the Fiat instead.. and french car people may be able to help

I was quoted $980 supply, fit and wired from the dealer which does not sound like a bargain...

Is this price inline with Megane, C4, Clio ect prices..
and is there a locally made alternative for towbars on low selling European cars

    thanks

I had a towbar priced for the C4 and it was over $1000. Give one of the larger manufacturers a ring as it will be cheaper to have it made for the car.

    Check with your local majors!

We got a tow bar, wired in, with removable tongue, for our Avensis (the family/school bus). It was fitted by a mobile operator from one the larger local firms, for about two thirds the price Toyota wanted to charge us for the privilege of having the genuine article installed at their workshop. (The one where staff enjoy their morning brew, behind locked doors, while customers wait outside until the official opening time! Talk about customer service!!! )

You haven't posted your model year but here's one for the 2009 - onward model. Earlier shape ones are available from the same place.

Even with a hundred or so dollars shipping from the UK it might be worth while.

Just a thought - with late model cars the real cost is not in the towbar but in the 5/7 pin wiring as with all the fancy electronics it is not just a case of hooking into the car wiring.

It can involve a specific loom and some reprogramming of the car electronics. This alone can run up a bill of around $750 (fitted) plus the towbar.

Certainly work checking out with Reece or other reputable towbar manufacturer.

What is included in this listing?
    Westfalia Detachable Towbar
    Detachable Neck With Keys
    Westfalia Branded Towball Cover
    Full Fitting Instructions
    Single Electrics Kit
Everything you need to get towing, a complete package from the UK leading towbar specialist!

Surely a car breathing Australian air is going to have the same electrics as a Brit one?

Alot of UK spec towbars will not be legal here in Australia..... And that little puppy certainly won't be..... don't ask me the ins & outs, but the neck/ball arrangement will be the main problem.....

Addo (remember him...) has one on his Xantia and it seems to do the job nicely. Just because they look different to the local ones doesn't mean they are inferior? Surely as long as the ball is the correct diameter and there is a hole fro the safety chain....

    I'm just saying...
