Sydney Drive 12/1/03 Pictures

Hi everyone,

I know you're all hanging out for my pictures :p A total of 12 cars show up which was excellent to see, and NOT all pugs for a change! One was a Porsche, courtesy of billtran, which provided a welcome change for us all (and gave us someone to pay out!) but 11 froggies was a good turnout.

Here's the link:

http://homepage.mac.com/derekbartlett/aussiefrogs

Enjoy

The drive today was great, and the C3 performed fantastically, although I did drive at the end of the pack most of the time. I was quite surprised by its performance... as long as you keep the revs up, it gets along, as any of the guys in 306 S16's and GTI6's can tell you when I was following them. Keep in mind it had 1300 (well 1700km now) on the clock, and I'd been asked to keep the revs under 4500 I thought I was doing well.

It's certainly a very competent cornering car especially with only 165 14 inch tyres!

The route taken was Eastern Creek-Lithgow via M4 and Gt Western Hwy, then Bells Line of Road to Richmond, then to Windsor and Wisemans Ferry for (late) lunch, the across the ferry, along fantastic windy roads to Peats Ridge and back to Hornsby via the Old Pacific Hwy. The total travelling time was 8.5 hours

I think a great time was had by all.

Yep, burn out award goes to John. Although hearing a 911 gun it after you left was pretty spesh too. Noone was there to see mine though...those crap P6000s do spin nicely though...rubbish tyres make the best noise.

Thanks for a great day guys. Apologies for holding you up whilst I took a "short cut", I mistook the Putty Ferry as the Wisemans, and headed off that way. I guess my punishment was the back of the pack for a while, as evidenced by my car being in so many pics.

Longest relief award would have to be mine though, that break at the school, ahhhhhhhhhhhh....what a relief....I could've gone for another few minutes...was a record in my book.

Most impressive car of the day: Brenno's 306 XT, which, with either Brenno or Darren, was able to keep all at bay. After I took it for a drive, I guess it just proved that these two are pretty darn good drivers, as I was left for dead when I took the wheel of the granny spec 306 and saw my beloved GTi6 disappear into the distance. An impressive runner up would have to be the C3.

Menace of the day: V8 Landcruiser, cutting up the convoy through Bells Line of Road near Richmond, taking huge risks for maybe a minute saved on his journey. Not sur what scared me most, the Landcruiser, or what John was tempted to throw at the guy. I must remember to never piss a chef off :p A close follow up would be the Merc for abusing John with his flat tyre. I guess it was just one of those days for John.

Most timid driver of the day: Would have to go to Bill Tran, I mean, I know it's not your car, but c'mon! It's a Porsche!!!! And yep, I know you expect this ribbing.

"Lots of noise, but where's the power?" award: Just has to go to Daniel's Renault 19...lots of noise, lots of efforts, but appears that auto tranny is on a treadmill. Full marks for noise though! hehe

Any other awards? Getting tired now...

Feeling very blonde today, just realised I was the only GTi6 there...hehe...good to see the S16s though, first time I've seen one up close and personal.

It was the driver

Given I had under half the power of some of the cars there, and wasn't allowed to use it all, I was very impressed! As Lincoln said 'that C3 can hold some speed through those corners'

THAT V8 Landcruiser frightened the SHIT out of me. I was a fair way behind the pack (well the Renault 19 and the 505 were behind me a little..) and the 'Cruiser' turned out of a driveway behind me in Bilpin. It didn't take long and he was right on my ass, and then for some crazy reason he gunned it heading towards a crest and overtook me. Then he cut in, tried to take off my front right guard forcing me to hit the brakes (those C3 brakes are unbelieveably powerful!) beforce he disappeared into the distance. The first corner he came to in front of me I thought he was gonna ROLLLLLL

Ah well!

Well I'm glad it turned out a good day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

I think those that chose to continue on and not go home after Wisemans Ferry were VERY glad they didn't. That road over the other side of the river is AWESOME !!!

Thanks to everyone I hitched a ride with. Brendan (macquered), Chris (xqisid), Bill (billtran - love the Porsche), Marcus (stone - best condition S16 I have ever seen), Parry (205 from hell with hell driver :p ), Then drove Brenno's car, then navigator for Brenno on the Old Pac in Lincoln's car.

Special thanks to Lincoln and Tonya(???) for giving me a lift back to Maccas to get my car.

When's the next one !!!

cheers!

I had a great day!

The promise that I made to hang back at the end of the pack was soon forgotten at around the third corner, maybe it was the second - I forget.

I just couldn't let up the oppurtunity to pass the 993 on the outside, that was *so* cool

Not only did I have awesome fun in my car, I got to go for a ride in the 993 S (widebody!!) and hell, i'm telling everyone about it today.

I also had the pleasure of driving Lincolns GTi6 on the best section of roads all day, and knowing the roads definately helped make the most of the incredibly fun chassis that this thing has. YEL020 - how scared were you??

I have a few pictures up. If you want any hi-res of any of them send me a mail at [email protected]

Looks like everyone had a great day. What is it with NSW ppl and all their 306's? I have been on about 6 drive days and have not had one 306 to bang doors with

The S16 (ACK 37W), is that stones? Looks identical to mine

I "should" be coming down to Sydney (driving) for a week in March. I would love to go on a drive with all the NSW crew while I am down there.

Hi all,

I had an absolute ball on Sunday, the raods were great, and yes I am so glad I decided to cross the river thanks to my son convincing me to do so.

Thomas, my son, enjoyed being with us and felt like one of the boys. He just couldnt understand why I wasnt passing everybody to get to the front, a real racer just like his dad.

Yellow20!!! Hell driver!!! sorry mate, but that was my first time on the day that thomas was not in the car with me, so I let loose and gave her all she had!

My litle pug 205 performed faultlesly all day and actually felt livelier today driving to work. But I have decided I need to make it a litle more powerful, so headwork might be on te cards very soon. No scary moments, except that landcruiser that couldnt see me over his doors, idiot! and I will never forget my best mate in the Merc, loser!

As I mention yetserday we need to organise a track day at wakefield.

Lets start organising the next one!

Regards,
Parry

Phasis, the ACK S16 is Marks (sorry forgotten his alias). The X6N is Chris's (xqisid on here).

Would you be interested in a track day whilst down here? I think we're all keen to have a fang on a track, but if not, we can arrange another drive like this one.

Lincoln are you serious? There are extra rattles and stuff after I drove it? How embarrasing!

Sorry dude!

You did manage to get the STOP light going on my car though hehe

Phasis - It would be great to see you down here, we should organise a meet for sure.

I have some other photos up on the web now, you will have to excuse my dodgy image resizing. Ignore the pictures up the top as well, not sure how they got there clown . The links to the bigger pics will not work as I don't have the webspace.

Brenno, as if I didn't expect to get it back with a few extra rattles?! Great to see my car getting fanged, I'll have to be in the car next time so you can show me how it's done. I couldn't believe how qiuckly you lost me there. Quite funny.

My efforts with the STOP signal was impressive though.

Great pics, especially love the thumbs over the lens shots. And you call yourself a Techie? blush

Yes Cal, that's me and I'm on the forums now

I've driven all those roads before but it's much more fun in a group.

I was going to pull out at wisemans because I was getting a little tired and I've done it a few times before but I'm glad I went because it was the best part. Especially when being hounded by Parry.

Thanks all for an enjoyable day. Bring on Wakefield! head_ban
