saw something about it, but not sure what release dates are, i guess it's just been released in cinema's in France...

Suggest you go to <a href="http://www.blackstar.co.uk" target="_blank">www.blackstar.co.uk</a> , they are usually cheaper than amazon.

I can vouch for their speedy delivery too, I ordered something in June - ordered Sunday night, on my doorstep the following Friday!

    Regards

Had this for about 12 months.

    <a href="http://www.inspectagadget.com/reviews/SRT5290.htm" target="_blank">http://www.inspectagadget.com/reviews/SRT5290.htm</a>

Upgraded to 80Gb disc and 24+ hours recording time.

    Seven’s digital television commitment encompasses:

∑ Digital widescreen coverage on the network’s primary digital television channel.

∑ Two supplementary channels – one combining “vision in a box” and “real-time” statistics graphics package, the other providing an alternative commentary for matches.

Derek, Have you sen this one

    <a href="http://www.shriro.com.au/ProductView.cfm?ProductID=261&Brandname=Thomson" target="_blank">Thomson set top box</a>

It is under $800, which looks OK to me. It is not HDTV, but for most applications that seems OK.

I've seen Digetch (sp?) HDTV boxes for around the $800 mark, and Teac SDTV ones for under $400.

I must admit I'd definately question anything made by teac though...

My only beef is that while I love widescreen, my 25" (59cm) TV is really to small to watch everything in widescreen on.

Time to fork out the cash for a 76cm widescreen tv I guess... saw a Grundig one on sale for $1899.

I've tried a DTV set top box here, it gets every channel perfectly, except for ABC and SBS. disappro

I really like those set top boxes with the hard disk in them, a friend of mine has one.

Went digital earlier this year with a Strong box (non HDD model ) and a Loewe Cantus 16:9 screen. Superb! dance

Only prob is a bit of pixelation when the weather is crap, but far better reception than we used to have.

How do you find the Loewe screen?

If I was a smart arse (which of course you all know I am not whip ) I would say, "By sitting in my comfy chair and looking forwards". However I suspect you are after a serious answer deal

It is the 100MHz model, so the screen is superb. Some would criticse its slight curvature, but I like it. We compared various brands including Sony and the price and quality of the Loewe is unbeatable. approve

I also like that we can add components to the TV later as required/desired/can be afforded.

Another neat feature is the way it has an onboard clock that you can set for a daily switch off - that means 11pm comes around and the TV turns off - time for Mr and Mrs UFO to go to bed if they are not already there. You can also set reminders to blip at you to do things like getting the pizza out of the oven etc.

My only crit is that I have not found a way to default the screen setting to 16:9 on power up. It either goes 4:3 (YUK!) or Pan, which is really just a blown up 4:3.

Looking fwd to watching Taxi on it in a coupla weeks. In the meantime, I believe there is some pagan ritualistic thing where allegedly grown up men run around a field with a leather bag inflated with air. Apparently people like to watch this on their TVs , so it will be a challenge to avoid it for the next few weeks. The channel surfing craze could be alive and well.

Once cable goes to digital it will be good.

It is so silly watching movies in 4:3 and mono due to the old fashioned set top boxes!

It is possible to have too many bits and pieces though. My uncle's place has a widescreen tv with digital, normal and foxtel. When it comes to choosing which he will watch TV on, he tends to use foxtel despite its poor picture/sound quality and the fact that his tv is stretching the image out to fill it in 16:9! I always get annoyed when I go over and fiddle with all the gear.

The picture quality alone should be enough to convince you. Tthen again if your TV is crappy and doesn't have component, scart or S-Video at a minimum ... then it's not worth it - unless you have very poor analog reception - then it's worth it, even on a lesser or smaller TV.
