When will the froggie get on board?

Citroen have been playing with ultra economical cars for a long time but so far we've heard little about if or when they might go into production. Could be that they're sorting all the bugs before they start pushing them.
The Japs, Toyota in particular are going full on to get their effort established and are now talking not only economical but cheap to make & therefore sell also. I wonder if Cit is waiting to hook up with Toyota, swap technologies and then really go for this market in a big way or if there's something a bit more sinister in the pipeline?

Thay also had one based on the similar principle that involved a big electric motor/generator coupled to a small engine working on LPG that stopped completely at say a set of traffic lights but restarted almost instantaneously when the accelerator was pushed down but I can't find the link to it!! mallet

    Some interesting stuff in there.

I remember reading a few years back, VW had released a model, that shut down after 10 seconds of idle, and as i recall cylinders shut down when not under load. All in the search for ultra economy.
    cheers!

They also had a HDi golf that shut 1 of 4 cylinders down when cruising ... drop the foot and the 4th would kick in again. Nice design - never made it here and the fuel savings were incredible.

Yeah, I read that. I think it was a three cylinder diesel Polo, their attempt at a 'three litre' car meaning 3l/100km.

They had a diesel Golf that shut down at idle and restarted as soon as the throttle was pushed. It came on tour here, but not to the showrooms.
