Welcome, to this place. Always nice to get an exotic view in the world of froggy. wink

    Nice choice of ride.

How does the 309 (with Mi16) perform compared to a 205Mi16 (if possible) or even just a 205 GTi??

As we never recieved the 309 under here, would just be interested to know.

Hi, the 309 Mi16 is obviously not quite as quick as a 205 Mi16 but it's alot closer in performance to the 205 than the 405. 0-100kph is 7.1 seconds I think. And the 0-100mph time is about 5 seconds quicker than the 405! (We still use mph over here lol)
I've followed a 205 Mi16 in my car and the difference is minimal. Only thing that helped extra was that I have the Mi16 gearbox and most 205 Mi16 owners seem to have used the original 8 valve gearing which is longer and adds a few 0.1s to the 0-100kph time.
Although I know many people feel the 309 is ugly it does have advantages over the 205. Firstly you don't need to shorten the inlet manifold to fit the Mi16 engine in. Also the car probably handles better due to the wider track and the fact that it is less front heavy. When I had the 405 Mi16 I had 138mph out of it, not sure what that is in kph.

    Hi Kris

Dont know about the 309 being ugly, unique but not ugly (although thats just my opinion)

When I had the 405 Mi16 I had 138mph out of it, not sure what that is in kph
Very respectible figures I dare say, and 7.1 eek! for the 309 ouch, very nice. I suppose the Mi16 would be a much nicer fit into the 309, I've heard that the Mi16 engine has to be tilted on more of an angle to fit into a 205 (under the bonnet) is this true with a 309 also??

Thanks for the info, sounds like you have a very nice car there. Ahhhh........ One day. I'll get there

    G'day Kris, welcome to Aussiefrogs,

Just thought I'd mention that 138 mph is approx 220kph.

As thats what most speedos go up to in Aus, I assume you must have been floggin' it pretty hard.

    cheers!

Well at the time I was racing my dad who was in his V6 24 valve Ford Mondeo. Very similar really, though between 30-70 I left him behind a bit hehe!

I agree, I don't think the 309 is ugly but so many other people do. At least it has character unlike so many of the bubble cars we see about today.

Had the 405 rollin roaded. What a joke, came out at 104bhp at the wheels! NO WAY! I did 220kph in that car and they're trying to tell me it has 106 bhp at the wheels!!
Speedos of UK Mi16's go to 150mph!
One thing about the Mi16 is that the low rev torque is only "ok" but when racing someone the way the engine really explodes with power at high revs really makes up for it. They are far more relaxed than the 8 valve engine at high revs.

Mi16 speedos go to 240km/h and a healthy model will sit on an indicated 220 km/h all day.

    Welcome, kris.
I too dont mind the 309's specially that green modded on one by eccosse, that made MAX cover, nice one. Yours is too. I also adore cars that only youd know more bout such as R5Gtt, 405 4x4, T16, Uno, Puntos GT's, etc, i love carismas 5Gtt and his new TVR, also eccose have wicked car and k-tec and the BB tuning boys.
    Cheers xqisid
ps whats your insurance group and MOT like on a engine coverted car such as yours, i have a frriend in Peterboruough and his Corsa has a turbo astra motor, which ha says is expensive. cheers!

I had a 309 in Sydney, 8v 1.9 but it has alot more room in front of the inlet manifold than the 205, Rear track is also wider although i have heard of 205 owners fitting the 309 rear sub-frame to there 205 to get the extra width.

Jesus Peter, you can't be serious can you? I reckon a std engine will let go before the end of the all day period at 220kmh...maybe in an M3 ro M5 but not the Pug motor at thoase types of speeds. Maybe 200Kmh is more relevant! When you buying my brake pads anyway?

KRIS - I've found the uk 205 forum good but it didn't go into specifics as much as some of these guys do (crap on sometimes), but thats waht it's all about. Enjoy!

We're lucky to get 30 degrees here in the summer!
Constant rain in this shitty country!!
I could see it being ok sat at about 100 mph for a while but at 130+...... I don't think the bottom end would appreciate that!
205 forum we have here is good but I must say I like the way people seem willing to get really into the subject on this forum. U guys have alot more respect for the 405 Mi16 than most folk on the uk forums.
Do you have much of a cruising scene over there?

    heyya Kris,
Good to see another GTiDrivers forum member down here. Welcome to our side of the world.
Glad to see you finally got your Mi16 conversion done. I've having a lot of trouble with mine, mainly due to lack of time and finances. I just want me little pug back.

    Anyway, welcome

Someone else who is also a member on this board, not any shown on that thread I hasten to ad, also is a member/lurker on that one also and found it a prize piece of hypocrisy to have someone praising this board & being made welcome here & then to be slagging off at the board and people on it to this crew, so he sent it to me.
As you can see by the quality of the posts, it would almost seem that it has become a magnet for those of the cap back to front persuasion, which possibly explains why some of our members are known there but now apparently rarely post. Pity when idiots do that to what could be a good board.
Can't understand though why one of the "contributors" hasn't made those comments about me before; like when he's e-mailed me about being unable to get his car going.
Do hope he e-mails me again off list for help....he'll certainly get it moon moon roll_lau roll_lau roll_lau
