UBB and tables. Mystery Partly Solved

    OK .. who's the UBB expert ?????

    Why is it that when ever you try to insert a table ... it allocates a hugh space before it ... I have not been able to work this one out ... for example ..

    Advertisement

    <table cellspacing="2" border="1" width: 100%;">

Item 1

Item 2

Item 3

Item 4

    or

    <table cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" border="1" width: 300px;">

Item 1

Item 2

Item 3

Item 4

Item 5

Item 6

Item 7

Item 8

Item 9

    The more rows in the table .. the larger the gap ???

    Ideas ?

    Is it an undocumented feature? (BUG)

    It seems to work if the HTML is all in one line like

code:

<table cellspacing="2" border="1" width: 100%;>

Item 1

Item 2

Item 3

Item 4

ends up giving

    <table cellspacing="2" border="1" width: 100%;>

Item 1

Item 2

Item 3

Item 4

    where as

code:

<table cellspacing="2" border="1" width: 100%;>

Item 1

Item 2

Item 3

Item 4

ends up with

    <table cellspacing="2" border="1" width: 100%;>

Item 1

Item 2

    You are indeed onto something here, by golly I think he's got it ...

    <table cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" border="1" width: 100%;">

It's

not

very

pretty

but

it

sure

works.

Thanx TroyO

    The question now is - why ?

    cheers! - XTC206 -

    Because the returns aren't treated as code, but as .....er.......returns!

    This is common in all database driven sites as far as I'm aware. My online store is coded all in one line (as far as entering product data). If you put returns in it tends to just provide pages with "An error occured whilst processing this directive" - real useful!

    The returns are "in" the table ... not before it .. but they are all before the final table close command ... so maybe that's it. In any case at least I can go back to using tables when it's appropriate.
