The Inaugural WA AussieFrog run had 2 special surprise guests today ... Pug307 and Deka .. yep the two of them rocked up in a Megane - not quite the Peugeots they are used to .... but what an effort !!!

In total 22 AussieFrog cars and 2 imposters

    The breakup.

    206GTi x6
    206CC x4
    206 x2
    205 x3

    406 Coupe x1
    306 Maxi x1

    Renault
    R25 x1
    Clio Sport x1
    Megane x1

    Citroen
    Xsara VTS x1

    Imposters

Not everyone made it to the end - about 18 cars finished the trip. And a great time was had by all ...

    Write-up to follow soon.

    Wow I'm impressed!

    Asuming DeKa & Pug307 flew & hired?
    Could set a precendence?

Wouldn't mind a trip to WA & what better way to see the country side than with a convoy of locals who know where to go.

Gibgib, from what I've heard, I believe Derek rented the Megane is Sydney, picked up Justin in Melbourne, and drove to Perth from there. (!!!!!)

Why a Megane though? Why not a proper Renault like a Clio? I've heard the Megane Cabriolet is a pretty ordinary car by Renault standards. The Megane II will be a different story though.

It was the ONLY french car option, no rental Clio's available this side of the country .. trust me*

    - XTC206 -

    * don't believe rental car websites or counter staff who promise "certain" cars, at the end of the day they either don't know what they are talking about or just tell you whatever they like, it's pot luck.

    Hello everyone!

Yes, we do have unlimited km's and we've clocked 2200km so far (since Friday 11:45am) and still got 24+ hours to go!

I flew to Melbourne, met Justin, we flew to Perth, picked up our rental Renault Megane Cabrio and took it from there.

Originally we had booked a Renault Clio Expression from Budget, but Budget pulled them from the WA Fleet a week before we arrived here. Desperate measures!!! We found a few companies that rented Megane Cabrio's here, but were very very expensive. Ended up finding a company with reasonable prices and a minimal age surcharge.

The Megane drives very well. I'm very impressed with its handling - almost 306 class I have to say. Open top motoring is bliss. With the windows wound up, it's very quiet inside at highway speeds On windy roads, it's very hard to get the tyres to squeal. Over all, very impressed. It goes alot better than its 79kw suggest. A bit like the 306XR goes much better than you'd expect for 77kw... Today we drove for a long time in the POURING rain with the roof down. Magically, we didn't get wet it all blows straight over the top at motorway speeds

The trip's been excellent fun. Unfortunately, heading home at midnight tomorrow night

Hope you haven't all missed me TOO much!!! dance

    Derek

    Daniel,
I won't be posting any pics. I no longer have my digicam, iPod, or FM Transmitter. I lost ALL my good gadgets NFI what happened to the bag they were in but someone decided they needed it more than me it appears.

Hasn't stopped me from having a good time though!

Banner went hand luggage - looked like a bazooka

I was thinking we should start writing on the back the locations and dates the banner's been used so we can see where it's travelled? What do you guys think? GreenBlood?

I was thinking of sticking the Qantas baggage sticker on the rear - with the PER for Perth on it.

It can have the SYD from Derek's tags.

It's been fun in WA but all good things come to an end. More stories to come.

Nick (nJm) told me you drove there!

You can imagine what was going through my mind when I thought you had driven to Perth in a Megane Cabrio...

Great to hear you enjoyed yourselves, good stuff!!!

^my post after the Canberra event

Major bummer Deka... you loosing your ummm gadgets
blush seriously that really is crap, did someone knock them off at the airport??

Love the idea of travel tags and even members signatures on the banners as they move around the country, that one has already travelled further than me, it did the Brisbane AFCD, Canberra and now Perth, do you want to hang onto the banner in Sydney I've got one here in Brisbane?

Hmmm... shame about the pics, always look forward to your shots.

It must have been difficult not telling anyone you intended to come over to WA for the drive.

It's a 1.6 manual, I don't think the car would work well as an auto.

Autos rarely work well with small capacity engines, unless they are seriously overpowered or have low end biased torque.

The Michelin Energys have coped surprisingly well, especially in the dry.

    Daniel,

Come on, would I ever get an Auto? No way. It's a manual. It's good

Yes, bummer about gadgets. Yes, disappeared at the airport. Yes, it was difficult not telling anyone that we were coming here (we booked it in August!!) and I'm *really* surprised someone didn't pick up on all my hints and surprises?

I mean "I might have to airfreight it to you" in reference to the banner - I thought that one would give it away!

I would've thought we left a litany of hints on the forums, eg

    * "Budget Clios have a lot more brooooom brooooom than sisters' Clios"

    * Little winks after DeKa & Pug307 on the "interested list" for the cruise. Hmmn, it was there for so long, didn't anyone sense something fishy

    * Sticker slapping something faster and bigger from Toulouse than any other Frog ever sticker slapped - the Qantas Airbus A330

    * All the silly references to air freight

Believe me, we've had fun reading the responses here. Tim, yours put a big big smile on my face

Hmmn, are pics of short shorts Aussiefrogette online yet Pity you didn't get any of Rotto's "lady in red"

See what you miss out on when you don't go to WA!

Well well well. Our trip draws to an end.

Justin and I are sitting in Perth airport at the moment waiting for boarding calls.

To all the WA Froggers, especially Guy (XTC206) thanks for organising such a great trip.

We travelled 2788km and had a great time

Hope to see some of you at a future Sydney/Melbourne drive day!

I'll second that. Guy's organisation of our first WA Aussiefrogs drive was fantastic - we have never had such a detailed drive guide before, so detailed right down to the distances between intersections! In addition he has been a great host in PER.

Great to put faces to the names and may the spirit of interstate Aussiefrogs cruises continue well into the future. Already we have had interstate visitors to drives in MEL, SYD and PER - an Aussiefrogs drive is simply a brilliant excuse for a holiday.

Bring on the Aussiefrogs Kiwi Cruise
