    NFI really but i'll take a guess, baffles placed in front of radiator to make it run hotter in winter bound Europe. Similar to the blinds used on some trucks here in Aus in winter time

    I agree. The R12 had a black vinyl one available AFAIK.

    There grill muffs,

    we have one for the 2cv, somehow I can never see us needing to use it in Australian though roll_lau roll_lau roll_lau

    You use them to limit the amount of frozen air allowed into the engine compartment when the weather is extremely cold (ie: below 0degrees C). In our weather you'd cook your engine in a very short time.
