I read somewhere the other week that they have these things in almost every suburban street in the Netherlands.
Apparently they lose about 1500 a year to arson. The one shown was lit up by filling a tyre with petrol & lighting it up.
It seems that the Dutch Politicians get bigger Christmas bonuses than ours hence the number in use over there.
It would be interesting to know how much these manufacturers "donate" to party political campaign funds (or to individual politicians) both here & overseas and how much of this propaganda bullcrap we get recycled here after it's done the rounds over there eminates from these manufacturers.

Yeah and the humor forum has been dull and boring lately. Damien is even recycling jokes - and some of them shouldn't have been brought out the first time! whip

The AF sense of humor seems to have disappeared.

BTW - death to the cash cameras. I saw a typical setup yesterday. A video camera on a stick beside a cash camera so that it could be monitored. I wondered, is there a camera watching the camera watching the camera, and if so, is there a camera watching the camera watching the camera that is watching the camera... In the UK these cameras are often refered to as GATSO's, to which im sure some of us are aware... they are needles to say quite often the target of vandalism, graffity, burnings, ran down etc.... i think the term to that is cheers. Xq

Good on em' head_ban ! It has been happening quite a bit over here in WA, 4 wrecked in as many months!! Hee Hee! Luckily we can have radar detectors which I use to get most of them but it is just ridiculous where & when they put them. I cant help but call them tossers as I drive past, juvenile I know but it makes you feel sooo good! wink Check out this website 4 good info on revenue raising world wide www.sense.bc.ca/links.httm. Regards from WA!

Gatsos... the name derives from the inventor of the radar speed detector, Maurice Gatsonides.

If you google you'll likely find that he was a very good rally driver of the forties and fifties... in other words, a traitor to the cause of safety and freedom, not to mention efficiency.

gatsonides's first speed restriction invention was the 2 rubber tubes on the road. We hated them from the bottom of our hearts and often manged to destroy them by skidding across the tubes.......gone!
As a former dutchman it is hard to admit that he was dutch. But then just consider that he once won the Rallye de Monte Carlo in a .........volvo..

I think they're illegal in all states except WA and NT.

Check out this site:

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~rossboss/lawsrdau.htm

I was thinking of getting one after a spate of fines early in the year (all for doing less than 10% over the limit ), but I found out that it's illegal to sell and possess radar detectors in Victoria.

If a cop suspect you of having a detector, they have the right to pull you over and search your car, and if they fail to find one, I think they can confiscate your car to do a more thorough search eek! . If they find one, a very, very large fine will be coming your way.

what i would like to know is how undetectable are the undectable radar detectors (phew try saying that 5 times fast)
i know the fine used to be around $750 if caught with one and they confiscated it (ie sold it interstate)
i did hear that trucks were running springs diaganolly across the front of their trucks and this was supposed to upset the radar dectector dectectors as well
