    So close ... i can't wait (UPDATE)

Bad news folks .... just as ashley was about to sign on the dotted line, he was saved by parry noticing smoke from the exhaust.

Thanks to parry for helping me avoid an engine rebuild!

Its amazing what you don't notice when you go and look at a car on your own through "ga-ga" eyes.

    Disappointed, but still determined! frown

    Thats a shame Ashley.

As pugrambo mentioned though, it could be a way to score a cheap car and "HAVE TO" do some engine work to it.

When buying froggy; don't be afraid to wait, don't be afraid to travel and most importantly, don't be afraid to offer a stupid price if it has what appears to be a terminal problem. deal
A guy I know in Sydney was looking for a BX auto.
I found one advertised that looked the goods on the 'net for $4995. He went for a look with an experienced froggy owner & found a few faults but nothing that couldn't be fixed & the car basically solid so..........he offered $1500. The dealer just looked at him, gulped, said he wouldn't give a RWC with it, blinked, shook his head & then held out his dook to shake hands & seal the deal. He'd had it for a while & could see it eating profits so just bailed at the first chance. dance dance
My mate has turned this into a fairly mint example now & he still has change out of the $4995 the dealer originally wanted. whistle whistle

Just a clue from an old campaigner.

    Alan S cheers!
If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

Ashley, how about you offer Parry good mates-rates money for his, and convince him to either, go for Mils mi-16 205, or go all-out on a 306 Gti6?!
Sounds logical for him, and you know exactly what you're getting from his, and it will be quick out the box.
Or how about getting a Gti-6 yourself, 2 or 3 are for sale right here on AF. I know Kristain and Pugrambo are parting with theirs.
$22 to $24 g's will get you a nice one. much more than a 205, not as real as a 205, but as you saw has the pace to keep up and is more than livable as a everyday car.
good luck, and as Alan suggested take time to frog-on up.

thats a shame....when u say its smokey...how bad is it, i mean it could be something as simple as valve seals....hell i used a 10-40 oil when i just got mine and it started smoking straight away...i now run it on penrite (25-70) and there is no smoke or oil usage whatsoever...if the car is in great condition otherwise it might be worth fixing the motor or maybe, like the others mentioned, hang in there and offer lower price; at least once you get the motor done u ll know where u stand...if we all sold our smokey pugs there would be none left on the roads...on another note....i think the 306 cars are great as well especially the sportier versions but if you plan to keep the car for a few years (which u will cause they r so bloody hard to part with)a GOOD 205gti will probably HOLD its value better than 306 range...

    cheers
