    The Power of Online Communities

<a href="http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=69&threadid=442510" target="_blank">Mark Mitsubishi in Scottsdale AZ makes me ashamed to be a "Mark"</a>

I've never used eBay, but I came across this interesting thread. A person had the winning bid on an auction for an EVO at 26k and hours after the auction ended, the dealer pulled the auction, saying he had decided to sell the car to someone else. The person posted to a forum, and now the thread in question is linked to well over a hundred forums online - car forums, bodybuilding forums, work forums, who knows what other types of forums.

People are writing complaints to Mitsubishi, the dealer, media, consumer groups, etc. It's great, I've never seen anything like it. Great to see the camaraderie between fellow car enthusiasts, although some of the guys there are a little cruel

In a week, the thread has 261,222 hits. 60 pages or 1489 posts, crikey.

Really, the internet is a real source of power for us netizens. You see small examples of this day to day. You don't have those new pads for the 206, eh? 4252.76 doesn't ring a bell Dealers just can't tell you crap, they can't pretend something hasn't arrived in the country, something doesn't exist, they all do that, etc.

If they try to con you, they get a bad name online. It's different to telling a mate about your misfortune, this time you're telling potentially thousands.

As others have said, some of the best insurance is having an Aussiefrogs sticker on the car.

I guess that thread is going to get a few more hits now

This type of thing always happens and that's why I don't get involved with online bidding, etc.

I knew you'd like it XTC

    Look at the latest thing:

Organized public awareness outside Mark Mitsu

Who's available to make it? I would like to meet at the dealership and hand out flyers of information regarding this issue, to potential customers. My school will allow me to print as many as I want.

This gets me really pissed off and heated. I'd like to raise as much attention as I could. If we can decide on a date fairly soon, I'll contact the Arizona Republic and New Times of Phoenix along with FOX10 news prior to our arrival.

This is just wrong and unprofessional. So who's up for it? Let me know.

p.s. - I hate their stupid radio commericals too, they are annoying as hell. "remember one thing, mark mitsubishi, mark mitsubishi."
They're gonna have people protesting outside with the media too Love it, just great!

BTW, in the 7 hours since I posted this thread, there have been an extra 10 pages of posts and another 60,000 hits. The lucky host

I wonder how the dealer principal feels? :p

Whilst we can use the internet to punish bad operators, lets also remember that businesses can prosper via doing the right thing by their clients, I think Paul V's AP Automotive is a perfect example here.

The contract via eBay is legally binding. Being in USA, I'd assume that the winner would have no problem at all enforcing the contract. I'm surprised the dealer would even try, given their consumer laws. Ah well, a nice big bad feedback for them, and negative publicity, means that they may as well not use eBay anymore, at least under a recognisable name.

I have purchased many items via ebay Aust, without incident until several weeks ago. I was highest bidder on a digital camera @ $59 with a max bid of $65 One hour before auction end it was cancelled, the reason given, item was lost or broken. When i checked the sellers other items, the same model camera was listed 3 other times with the listins on differend end days. All of those listings were already over $100 the one the day following mine was at $154. So i logically assumed it was a bullsh1t reason for cancellation & was reposted later on. He did legally withdraw before auction closed so nothing i could do.
    cheers!
    Health and good fortune always,

    On a related note...

I went to Caboolture Markets this morning, and a guy started kicking up a fuss.

Seems he'd put a $50 deposit on some kind of scooter that was $950 or something, arranging with the vendor to be back in an hour to pick it up.

When he returned, the scooter was gone, the vendor offered him back his $50 and told him he'd sold the scooter to a friend.

"But I brought my kids back here, they're all excited about this, I want it!"

"You can have another one on Tuesday," said the vendor.

"I want the one I bought and I want it now, and I'll stand here telling everyone walking by what you've done to me!" the enraged shopper screamed.

I don't know how it was resolved, but a little while later the stand was unmanned and neither of them were anywhere to be seen.

I'd imagine that the pressure of having been told that I was going to get the Market Manager to come over and all made the vendor willing to go find his mate and retrieve the scooter.

Or maybe they went off to face each other at 20 paces with pistols...

I have been studying about the online community and cyberspace this semester. Amazing stuff isn't it ^^. Governments toppled, power regained, voices heard and a SH*TLOAD of Porn ^^. It can be a very empowering thing though, sometimes empowering the wrong types however?! Hmmm, it is interesting being here now, to watch what is happening. I wonder how it will all turn out? cheers!

You have to look well into the future...

When the fossil fuels are all gone, when the forests no longer yield firewood, when the winds are too calm to turn windmills, when the dams are too empty to churn turbines, when the sky is so black that solar panels give no yield... then you will know...

Look at this time, a time of cold and unbearable silence, and when you look you will see... the computers will no longer run.

Almost an extra 200,000 posts in the 24 hours since I posted this thread on Aussiefrogs!

Notice how many people there are in the thread with "Registered: Nov 2003" and member numbers in the 46 thousands?

    Absolutely.

You know the funny thing is, Monday morning business hasn't started yet at that business

I'm curious to see what happens. Some of you might remember a case when a mechanic took a customer's car out that was in for service and fanged the hell out of it. The moron showed off about it online, spread like wildfire around the internet, got sacked.

    You can find that thread <a href="http://forums.mustangworks.com/showthread.php?threadid=29134" target="_blank">here - showoff</a>.

    <a href="http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=19809" target="_blank">The owner complains</a>.

<a href="http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?&threadid=19935" target="_blank">Condolence thread for racerat</a> - you know, it *only* had 27,300 odd hits.

    Hi Guys,

This is amazing!!! It goes to show you the car nuts can over power any major corporation at the drop of a bid... If this doesn't get worldwide news coverage it will be amazing. It is all over the net!!

Guess what? Mark got his bloody car! He won!

Great, eh? Really does do justice to the title of the thread. Apparently the dealer's finance manager got over a thousand emails on the matter!

The poor old receptionist that had to take all those irate calls is getting a bunch of flowers too
