    Welcome,

I have a Black GTI as well, mine is the late 99 model. 62,000 kms on it already (25,000 just in the last year, I just cant get enought time behind the steering wheel).

    Hope you enjoy the forum.

    Derek,
You sticker slapping whilst on your overseas holidays must be paying off.

that's shock, not sarcasm. I couldn't put that many kms on a GTi6, I'd go and get a Toyota or something for that.

Why would you drive a Toy car (oops TOYota) if you can do the K's in the Pug?

wink and dont tell me it depriciates the value of the car, once I sell the car its hardly my concern, and the amount of fun you would have had is irreplacable.

25,000 kms isnt that much if you go for a weekend drives every two months or so clocking up 1000~1500 kms in 3~4 days or so. And you people in the WA, NT etc your idea of traffic is 1 minute wait at the lights :p (Im just jealous)

I agree with you tekkie - a car is designed to be driven! 20 000km is 'average' for a car anyway.

I've done 5000km in just over 2 months in the XSI - that'll work out at 30 000km a year. Doesn't worry me one bit - most of it ends up being highway cruising anyway.

Why would you put kilometres on a car you hate anyway?

hmm...GTi6 is just too special to me. I could do it to a normal Pug.

    Lincoln,

I totally see your point of view and appreciate what you must percieve as sacrilige what I'm doing to it. But so would others that take Ferrari Dino's, their Porsche's, GTHO's, RS200/500 on the Targa Tasmania. I on the other hand love to see performance cars driven like the designers wanted them driven, road cars used as road cars and above all every semi performance car ENJOYED on the road not wrapped in bubble wrap in case they get looked at too hard

having said that I bought a 2nd car as I couldnt stand to see the GTi being used as my race track trainer
... and I couldnt afford the spares in case I bent it.

i bought this little beast for $1000. it is my dialy driver now. The Xsara is forever getting bits and pieces added... and i was without a car. I take this to work and to uni aswell. It has only done 54,000 original klm's (got it from an old guy who owned it from new). $14 petrol gets me 350klms, and hasn't cost me a cent in 5 months.

here it is... a 1984 Daihatsu Handi. all 2 cylinder 600cc of it roll_lau The Xsara ins;t any 306gti6, but still i see it as too precious to have klm's wound up on it, and see it being" stone chipped" etc from the daily drive.

Voytek, I don't have a problem with what you're doing to your baby. I've now been without a car for 4 months, I'm having withdrawals...I'm forgetting what it's like to have a car, and am elevating my old car to worship levels...I...am...getting...faint...must...not...a rgh.

    Sorry for going OT.

Not at all Lincoln (going OT), I know how much you loved the wee GTi beastie.

and I appreciate your level of commitment to the car. I just cant bring myself to the same level of worship.

A&J have a 98 white GTi6 with 45000kms for $24500. Sunroof. New GGrid IIIs, half worn P6000s on the rear. Leather interior. OEM stereo still.

    Oh so tempting.

I'm totally with Voytek and Derek.

Cars are for driving. If its a Ferrari or something, yes, save it for weekends. But by all means drive it.

As far as a Pug goes, they are built to be driven.

Speaking of Ferrari Dino's Voytek, if I owned one, I'd be driving it every sunny weekend. If I had the money to buy a classic, that would be it......(drifts off to a dreamland where a Dino sits in my garage)

I know, we are spoilt ... peak hour last all of 25 mins most times . But yes a couple a weekends away adds up - and it's not unusual to put 1000kms on in a weekend. tongue
