Those figures are a bit odd.

Peugeot's 6630 is the national total for 2002 & I know Volvo sold 3169 cars nationally last year - that's what VFACTS says!

    What's the definition of luxury?
It used to be defined by price at one stage.
Perhaps now they mean anything apart from a Holden, Ford or Toyota.

Yeah, that's what it looks like. Anything that's not Asian or Australian.

I mean Renault's range is far from being luxury, except the Laguna. Peugeot? 206? Luxury? I don't think so. I mean I love French cars, just calling all of them "luxury" is a bit rich.

That list was from the new

    "the (Sydney) magazine"

in the Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday. Yup, that's it's title, exactly as written above.

I agree with you Lincoln - what's their definition of Luxury? Anything of non-asian origin is my guess!

With a title like that, I wouldn't expect the journos involved to know a lot about car market segments..

Sounds spookily like yet another lifestyle / advertising magazine!

i'd tend to think french cars are more under a stylish car category than a luxury category.. only coz they're different to every other type of car with their interesting designs etc...

    Lexus is Asian.

But, yes, I'd say their definition seems to be anything European.

I never thought of Peugeot or Renault as luxury brands of cars.

When I think of a luxury car, I think of a very large expensive car with a whole lot of extravagant stuff in it, which generally handles like a boat and is uninspiring to drive (Rolls Royce, Cadillac, etc, etc).

This is the same magazine that had the Swans playing the Melbourne Storm in their next match - I don't think it has too much cred. roll_lau
