Now could all of those "others" be hankering after an Alpine by any chance?

(PS, wish there was a way to change my vote - I gave it to the Floride / Caravelle but if I'd known the R8 would be all lonely I would have voteed for it, instead. Nice cars those R8s, especially with the 1100 engine or better.)

    Cheers

Good to see that the R8 has some company at last! Still I thought it would pick up more than 2 votes!

    Cheers

Well I recon my favorite would be Louis Renaults original 1898 prototype because without that none of the rest would have happened, but I couldn't see how to vote for it.

About 3-4 years ago, Katriina's Renault Page had a vote for the "Renault of the Century" if I remember the name correctly.

The Renault 16 won. I've had an R8 for 30 years and love it dearly, but it is the end of the evolution trail started by the 4CV. By contrast, the Renault 16 was extraordinarily integrated in design - no variants at all - was supported by some 12 (was it 16?) new patents - and set new standards in medium cars. Set the standard for modern hatchbacks, comfort etc, sealed cooling system, alternator etc etc. "Classic and Sports Car" magazine reckoned it was pretty good for a car of the 1970s last year (or the year before) and didn't realise it was a car of the 1960s!

I reckon the 16 is hard to go past for bold, innovative, practical and financially accessible design. They sold 2 million or so - bit more than the Avantime!!!

The R8 (or at least the 1100 variants) had a sealed cooling system before the 16 came out from memory.

It was a great car, the 16 though, I agree.

My grandfather had a new 10S, which my father drove extensively. He says it was a much better car than the standard 10 he later owned himself.
The 10S also had a sealed cooling sysem, with a glass overflow bottle, which exploded one hot day.
It was a pity Grandad parked it at high speed. ( he also parked his 403 on the front of a bus, and the reason he got his 504 was that he bounced his Nissan 4x4 off a rock wall. He was shot dow over 3 times in the war, and he said that if a plane crash could,t kill him, than a little car wouldn't either.)

And the R4 had a sealed cooling system before that.
