    Excellent online racing game/simulator

Some of you may already have found LiveForSpeed but I was unaware of it's existence until recently.

It is an excellent online and offline racing similator (currently in beta test developed by 3-4 guys) but due out in production in the next month or so which will include the damage engine, new cars and tracks.

One of the real interesting views you can drive with is just seeing the wheels, which really demonstrates understeer, oversteer etc very well.

I find the race/physics engine excellent - you can change almost anything/everying about the car setup and the best part is you can race against others online. There is a well supported forum and you can 'skin' your own cars with branding/colours etc etc. I've been playing for the last few weeks and I'm hooked

    Here is the link: <a href="http://www.liveforspeed.net" target="_blank">LiveForSpeed Web Page</a>

    Cheers
    Steve

Nick I always check if files are
    1. on files.bigpond.com
    2. on games.telstra.com/gamearena

We're only on a 1GB plan here at work so it all helps.

If they're not and you can handle a wait of between a few hours and a day, request the file be added

LFS.....pffft! Get you hands on a copy of the now old Grand Prix Legends for $20. Nothing even pretends to come close to it for realism.

If you want really cheap, really realistic and oh f#@k crashes, download an old pc game called indianapolis 500. It is a very early polygon graphic game, with just the one track.

The graphics are simple but still very clear, but the best thing about the game is the behaviour of the cars. Most mechanical parameters are adjustable, including, wings (front and rear, camber, tyre pressure, spring rates, sway bars, fuel capacity, gear ratios, tyre compounds, boost level, tyre offset etc etc..

The actual behavior of the cars are very realistic, and will change with fuel load, tyre temperature etc. It is quite hard to get an indy car to handle well for a 40 lap stint, and keeping up concentration for 500 miles is a challenge. There are 4 different races to choose, from, a ten lap no damage race (smash up derby), through to the 200 lap, (touch a wall and your toast race)

A great game for those that like accuracy over glitz.

Parry, I have been driving Nascar 2003 a bit on the converted GPL tracks. I'm really looking forward to racing online with it. I am just waiting for the next road tracks series. I don't have any interest in the ovals at all. GPL is keeping my fairly busy with Monday night F2's and GPLAC6 on Thursday nights.

    Cheers,

I had one similar .... but a lack of storage options when I moved into a smaller place forced me to give it away mallet - now pissed I didn't keep it - especially since my brother has a 1024x768 projector (Halo's fun on this)

I've just started playing this game. It is so much fun! Mind you, I found that little FWD hatch to understeer far too easily for my liking. I had no idea what values to put in for suspension/steering modifications so what did I do? I turned to my haynes manual. I put in all the values from a 505 GR/SR and the little thing is far more happy to go around corners .

Nick, I had the same problem trying to get the GTi to handle.

If you check out the LFS forum, there are a few posts with config settings files that you can simply paste into one of the directories, once I did this the car handled a lot better.
