The Future of Lakeside - Meeting Tomorrow

As most of you will be aware, Lakeside in Brisbane was closed for racing in 2001 when purchased by Pine Rivers Shire Council. The fight to get Lakeside opened again for club level motor sport and driver training, has been a long one. Now that the circuit is to be Heritage listed, our chances might have been substantially improved.

There will be a meeting at 10am tomorrow (22/2/03) at "Red Dog Petroleum" at the intersection of Dohles Rocks Rd, Narangba Rd & Anzac Ave, Kallangur. The purpose of the meeting is to form a common interest group to convince the council to reopen the circuit.

Please try to attend this meeting if you have an interest in this issue. Show your support for one of Australia's most historic and challenging tracks. Don't let it go the same way as Surfers Paradise, Amaroo and so many other great Australian racing circuits.

Cheers,

Cal.

Cal,

If you want some support, could I suggest you look up
www.noosacarclub.com

and send an e-mail to people involved with that club as I'd imagine they could be interested in being involved in its preservation. I know CCC of Qld have held events there previously so they may even be capable of offering support.
Pity those organising these things didn't make it a bit more public a week ot two sooner than they do so that a much more impressive number of enthusiasts could roll up to vent their anger.

Great to hear there's a heritage listing...

I'll be there, but don't forget, we are dealing with one of the most deceitful local councils in Australian history.

They will tell you one thing to your face while simultaneously ordering staff to go the opposite direction.

I was late to the meeting because I was having a job done on the new car I have bought. I missed the speeches. The idea was to form a common interest group. Keep an eye on the website for further details: www.savelakeside.org . I am hoping Ray can shed a bit more light on what was said. I speak to Trevor (the organiser) on a fairly regular basis. Now the track has been Heritage listed, the next task is to get the council to agree to let it be used for racing.

A steering committee has been formed and is meeting this Thursday night to find ways to make the Council recognise the need to allow racing to continue.

You know, one guy turned up there from Maroochydore or somewhere with nearly a thousand signatures on their petition!

He said he could have got more if he'd had three or four days notice...
