pig205's night out at the drags

Took the pig for its first trial "up close and personal" to the willowbank 1/4 mile test and tune
on january 1st.
For pics/text go to http://www.fullboost.com.au
click on the green datto 'MORE'
I got 4 runs in - the best of which was 15.2 sec
I Was fairly happy with that as 1. i was really crook from the night b4 [new years] 2. in a hurry
i;d put the compound tyres on backwards [refer to
#1 again] and 3. the car is not running 100% atm due to computer experimentation.
Being the only euro there was fun and pig205 got better times than alot more fancied cars such as
skyline gtst, vl turbo, commondor v8's, silvias x4
300zx etc. most cars were turbo.
Would have got better times but kept going from
2nd into 5th. SHITE!!! Was it the kilkenny??
My mission now is to get into 14's cheers jr

Good on ya mate.
At least ya got there an gave it a go.
Show those jappas and aussie tanks what a euro can do.
Breaking into the 14s in a NA fwd car would be a pretty good achievement.

That is fairly impressive. I'm sure 14's will come when you are not being hugged by the Killkenny bear! I'm sure 2nd to 5th changes weren't helping matters.

I joined MG Car Club this week and will be getting my CAMS licence next week. The 1st event for me will be a hillclimb at Mt Cotton on Mar 16. I will also do a Morgan Park sprint soon after. Gerald Cullen (Targa Tasmania Mi16) has also joined this year. So I reckon you, Phasis, Neil_416, Chipper and other Pug drivers should join also. I'm going to get creamed, but who cares. Check out the calendar here http://www.mgccq.org.au/calendar.htm

Cheers,

93.3MPH equates to a low 14sec pass with good traction. The quickest NA FWD street car in Oz at the moment is a stripped out Civic with 13.7sec @ 99MPH.

Can you tell me what mods have been done besides the obvious Mi16 conversion ???

yelo20, that 13.7 figure is that current, as i know of a stripped out early crx with a ba16 vtec and extras conversion( still NA) running close low to mid 13's but, on azenis out front and tuned heavily for c16 fuel.
Perhaps he hasn't done it officialy yet? although hehas the slip to back em.
either way the 15 sec figure for PIG205 is excelent considering the booz.

I am enthused yelo20 by your"equates to a low 14 pass". As a famous queenslander once said"please explain" i would be very fortunate if pig205 could do 14's but that is a big ask.
an interesting note; i have a mag. with a 16 pug 205 thrash..some mi16,a supercharged jobbie, turbo
and a few 8v carbs. The quickest 1/4 mile was a 8v with throttle bodies etc. it was an actual race car. [211bhp]
Its time was 15.3 and 0-60 at 6.36 so i am using these figures as a guide to my car which is reasonable i thought seeing it has more development to go. cheers jr

As I mentioned, with GOOD traction, your MPH definately indicates that it is possible to achieve a low 14sec time. I have been around drag racing for many years and know what times are possible given a certain MPH.

What was your 60ft time? I assume it is something in the order of 2.3sec? If so then just by getting better traction and doing a 2.1 or 2.0sec 60ft you will run a mid to high 14 everything else remaining constant.

Do you know how much HP you are making?

xqisid.

I haven't heard of this CRX. But I'm not doubting you. I just know the guy who owns the Civic and his time was achieved at a street meet in December last year. That is an internally stock B16A btw. He also used Azenis.

Well done JR, great time

I took my 205-mi16 down the 1/4 mile to test prior to changing the computer a few weeks ago. It was a hot day - 39 degrees in Perth and I got consistent 15.7's so 15.2 is excellent. It would be great if you could post your 60 ft time and I will try and find my slip and post similar details.

The Autronics is going in next week so hopefully I'll give it another go. We also found that the throttle-body injectors were firing from the bottom and hitting the butterflies so have moved them to the top. I use the 1/4 mile purely for testing as it is a really reliable way of knowing what the car is doing and whether modifications actually make a difference.

Note that I am talking naturally aspirated ONLY. Not turbo or supercharged.

Basically for every 1/10th quicker in your 60ft time you reduce the 400m time by 2/10ths.

I am about to embark on a project myself and you guys just may have changed my mind as to what car is to be used. wink

Hi Jr,
There are a few reasons for me going the Autronics route:

1) We have used Autronics before in my WRX STi and I was extremely happy with the unit, its functionality and the performance and smoothness that we gained. I've also seen a lot of people have a lot of success with the Autronics in a variety of vehicles.
2) Although I've heard very good things about the Haltech, I and the team don't have experience with it.
3) The Autronics SMC is pretty cost effective and would also support any future enhancements eg turbo wink
4) I am familiar with the Autronics software which is very good and allows me to easily tune, monitor and log.
5) The team that has always worked on my motorsport cars, RaceTorque, know these very well and so I feel more comfortable with them installing and tuning it.

I think at the top level, the Autronics, Motec and Haltech are all very good computers and it often comes down to personal preference and previous experience.

Cheers

1st run: 1.994 [i went from 2nd to 5th not long after]
The other 3 runs: mostly around 2.3-2.4.

jr.

If you could repeat the 1.994 60' and NOT go from 2nd to 5th wink then I would hazard a guess at a 14.4 timeslip. That would be very impressive indeed.

A 1.994 60' for a FWD car is VERY respectable.

Well done. head_ban

cheers!

Guys, obviously we love our cars for a whole lot of their characterisics - the looks, the handling and their mean time between failure wink but performance is a key element for some of us and 1/4 mile times are a useful measure.

I have been doing a little research on 205 performance - what BHP it takes to gain a certain level of performance eg 1/4 mile time. Although not absolutely scientific, I think it does provide some useful data points.

I found some interesting specs in a recently purchased 205 book that happened to include some performance speccs for Richard Longman's 8v and 16v modified engines. I've mapped these against JR's car and mine (severely out of tune with the Wolf as our dyno run proved - 143bhp!) but at least I have a number to match against the 15.7 ET.

As soon as we have the Autronics in, we will dyno again and do some more 1/4 mile runs for comparison.

Chris.

The G-tech times tend to be a few tenths optimistic with their times. So they give you an indication of what your time may be but count on it being a few tenths slower at a dragstrip.

A good idea is to use the G-tech at a strip one day and measure the variance in the times. That way you will be able to accurately ADJUST your G-tech times to come up with a more realistic strip time from then on.

Cheers

Thanks yelo20,
I thought these times would be abit off.
Unfortunately the G-tech isn't mine and i won;t bother with it next time.
When all my work is finished, ill put the car on at Est/Crk on those wednesday night meets, and see how i go.
Cheers Xq

ps, some one told me you can also work out an aprox 1/4 mile time if you know [email protected] and weight of car is this true or ca-ca?
