bx16v and mi16 engines.

Before i order my vernier cam adjusters can anyone [Alan S ?] confirm that these 2 motors are EXACTLY the same in ALL respects.
The reason i ask is that nowhere can i see in mags/net etc. a mention of cam gears for the bx only for the mi16.
I'd hate to get them all this way and find out they are slightly "different" cams or something.
you know what the froggies can be like!

jr,

I *think* they are; have always been led to believe there is no difference.
As you are no doubt aware though, there are high compression (imports) standard compression (such as in BX 16V) 1.9 litre, 2 litre, alloy blocks & cast iron blocks, some with catalytic converters & some without. There have over there, alloy sumps (air/con models) and pressed steel sumps (not that this should affect the internal design.)
Speaking to wreckers as I was a few weeks ago regarding internals, those supposedly in the know were doing mix 'n match with internal parts so I would say you would be pretty safe.
I would suggest that as a bit of insurance, that you post on http://www.andyspares.com/discussionforum/

and ask there as there are almost 1000 registered members there many of whom are pretty well versed in both brands and even the IT Admin there, Jon Wood (an aussiefrog member) could confirm. Failing that, they have an on-line parts catalogue which may contain the same bits and can therefore compare part nos.

Hope that is some help.

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

JR, my motor is also out of the BX and I had it confirmed today that it is the alloy block ie same as Mi16. So, unless they used both motors in the BX, yours should be the same.

My rocker cover is off at the moment so if there is anything I can measure for you, let me know wink

Cheers

Owen Wuillemin could make you a pair for a lot less than you can import them.

Even so, does this mean it's got a different motor or just a different manifold???
