    some shots from the other week

    I have been off this forum for a while. Have had a very busy few weeks, with a rally and then many deadlines for uni and no free time not even a free weekend!! I was very sad to miss the SYdney cruise on Sunday, but I had deadlines and an immenent "FAIL" of my course if I didn't stay home and work

    anyway. I spent 5 fantastic days a week ago driving around central western NSW and the blue mtns in a lovely Porsche 911RS.

    Advertisement

    It was on the east coast classic rally, which is also open to modern cars. There weren't many frenchies there, but there was a nice Pug 505 and 604 and a really hot sounding renault5 Turbo which was an ex world rally car.

    The event was 100% tarmac closed road rally with about 20 or more closed road special stages a day. Some special stages were 18km's long!

    I have put some pictures here from the event. I was looking forward to taking shots of my own, but my digital camera packed it in on the first day and I couldn't repair it.

    Glad to say we came first outright in our class, followed by an F355 Berlinetta Ferrari, followed by a hotted up CooperS Works with more BHP then your average one.

    Outright winner in the rally was Quinn in his 996 Porsche 911 Turbo and second was a Pink Donut King SkylineGTR somthing. Then third was Alf Bargwana in a Torana.

    Those of you who know the old pacific HWY from Mooney Mooney south to Asquith...This was the first rally stage, I was very happy to clock the 4th fastest time of the day, just 0.5 seconds behind bargwana and 8 seconds behind Quin in the Porsche turbo. ehehehe not bad for a original 1973 race car wink

    here's a shot of me on the Old Pacific HWY travelling south...this bend is outside the "Pie in the Sky" pie shop for those that know it ehehe just a second after this photo was taken I got sideways and had a bit of oversteer at about 145km/h ehehehhe the crowd liked it, but my dad navigating DIDN'T LIKE IT!! hehehehee

    <img src="http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nbj/ral/dars.jpg" alt=" - " />

    here's another shot taken west of Bathurst and about 10 km's from Blainey I think:
    <img src="http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nbj/ral/ourcar.jpg" alt=" - " />

    Anyway I have a load more shots to scan in at some stage. May put a site up.

    I was thrilled to spend 3 consecutive days running up and down Mount Panorama and it's acess roads on rally stages. One stage started from the first corner before you turn onto the straight, but it went the wrong way up the mountain, past the light car club, up through the eses and then back down again and finished halfway down the straight. The RS managed to do about 240 going up the hill which was a surprise to me wink ehehhe the F355 Ferrari (which was hot on our heels) couldn't top 250km/h going up the hill

    oh yeah!
    here's a shot of that cool little renault5 turbo.
    it look BUTT ugly if you ask me... but I am a pug'/porsche man ehehhee
    <img src="http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nbj/ral/renault.jpg" alt=" - " />

    anyway. I must be off. more study and assignments to get done b4 the midsemester break! gggrrrr

    Oh yeah.

    I forgot to mention the story of the ALfa.

    This guy had an off on the last day, it was on a stage between bathurst and lithgow. There was a tight right hander which was 4 degree, off camber and tightened. It had loose gravel on the outside (off camber) and had a recommened double caution. You couldn't miss it. Anyway, he came in too fast (about 100km/h) and the car spun around 180 degrees and rear ended a tree, it then spun again and ran off the road and fell down a 12ft cliff face and landed squarly on a rock which pushed the engine up throgh the bonet, the car then rolled off the rock down into a ditch and ended up on it's side.

    The driver and co-driver walked away with no injuries, but the alfa is a complete right off.
    The front looks even uglier then the rear....but I only have a shot of it's rear...

    Well done. If I'd known you were in the rally I would have come and said hi.
    I took my eldest boy in on the Sunday morning to look at the cars. The little guy made me walk along the cars and tell him what each one was.
    It was a great range of cars this year.

    cheers!

    AHA !

    so it was your Carrera I must have seen at Bond Rollbars at Sefton about a month and a half ago. It was stripped of the interior bits and ready for rollcage. It had the navigator station ready though in the glovebox.

    Very smart looking 911. I was jealous as hell. cry

    Yeah this year there were a lot of modern cars in it wink I got to swap with some driver and drive some nice machinery, such as Jensons, Ferari F355's, etc Was a great rally.

    Yeah we fixed up the rollcage wink it's not stripped to the bones that much!!! But yeah it has a very nice TerraTrip rally computer with wheel and spedo cable probes.

    Yeah mate funny I started the thread Well your friend is right. Our car is an ORIGINAL 1973 Porsche 911 RS. It is a purpose built lightweigth race car that the Porsche factory built a limited number of in 1973. It is one of only 100 in the world and I think one of 5 or 6 in Australia. Probably the only one that still does rallies and track days and is still driven the way it was designed to have been driven.

    There are 1000's of copies in Australia, usually are 911E or 911T's or 911t's all from around the same era. The reason for this is that the RS is regarded (and still is today) as the "Ultimate" porsche and is a bit of collectors car. We drive it hard but keep it within the limits I have only had one lose in it at eastern creek and dad has lost it twice. It's never hit anything though heehhee chasis has never even had a small dent in 30 years.

    We got a great mechanic who looks after it for us. We have rebuilt the engine but apart from some cosmetics, the car is in it's origial condition, we can remove the rollcage and take out the rally computer, put the dashboard back in and it's back to the way it was when it left the factory.

    We both truely love that car wink ehheheheehe There's nothing like a car which has a massive strong flywheel, centerforce clutch, racing gearbox, no A/C, no ABS, no Power steering but handles better then any other car I have driven and goes harder. it's just RAW GUTS hehehe. The tyres are great too, we are running soft compound Forumla V track tyres. (potenzas)

    BTW the 5 did sound bloody awesome.
    Oh yeah! The renult 5 took second place for the "MOST NOISE" award wink it wasn't sweet music too my ears, but was pretty nice.

    FIrst place had to go to a Yellow Ferrari F355 Berlinetta. This guy had a custom made exhaust system that was something to behold!!!!....

    As you know Ferraris have 4 exhausts...well what this F355 had was an amazing system which is apparently legal...what happens is the car is very quiet (normal ferrari quiet) when it's revs are low...it only uses the two inside exhausts...well what happens is when the cars revs go above about 3,500RPM, the vacum advance switches to the other two outside exhausts which bypass the mufflers and it goes straight through... Well when the car opens up, it's incredible!!! It's an ear piercing high pitched squel that could rival an F1 car! no sh*t!

    We were all having some drinks at the end of day three at the Oxford tavern in bathurst and some local hoons in WB utes were smoking up their tyres and oogling at all the rally cars lined up outside the pub...

    Well as the ferrari left, he did a lap around the roundabout holding his revs at about 2,000rpm in 1st gear. We are thinking "Here we GO!!!" and sure enough he planted the foot, sidestepped the tail a bit and just gave it an AWSOME little blat in the mainstreet. It was so loud, the people at the table next to us, frowned and blocked their ears wink
    head_ban

    But yeah the renult5 Turbo sounded good just not as good as the F355

    My uncle has driven a car that sounds exactly the same as this one. He got it from one of those performance car rental places (his firm have cool corporate drive days). Ferrari do have an optional exaughst that does what you described, and I believe it costs around $10,000.

    I hope I get to hear it one day, so far the most amazing car I've heard would have to have been his M3 screaming at 7900rpm.

    I believe the car you saw on the weekend is also a real RS Brad. There is also an immaculate replica in Brisbane, in the white and blue livery. Haven't seen it for years though.

    Well done nbj. Awesome RS. We were looking into competing in that event. Maybe next year. Do you happen to have a full entry list? Sux to see a 105 Alfa in that state! Poor buggers.

    Not eligible for Speed on Tweed, unless I get my Mini sorted. Probably still would not have let me in by the sounds or things.

    Will have to read the entry list for the NSW one to know what chance we might have.

    Scuttlebutt in the pits Sunday was that the CAMS are unhappy with the speeds being achieved by the faster cars (ie. F2 Chevrons and FAtlantic Marches) at Mur'bah... that they won't be able to run them next year.

    Maybe that will open up some doors?

    I know Owen and Adrian would fly in their 205 there... and I don't mean just exiting the bus stop.

    Oh shit, make sure that the racing cars can't go too fast! mallet Where exactly on that course do they go too fast?? I think CAMS need to address there position with their ever destructive attitude toward motorsport in Australia.
