I was told by my local exhaust mob that getting extractors for my R12 was a waste of money, as the original was already a good design!
The only saving would have been in weight, which was marginal at best.
What they did was to make a full custom system from the exhaust manifold back. It comprised of extending the twin outlets to about half way down the car and then a single beefy muffler out the back.
Did I have more power? I don't know, but it sounded great! evil
    cheers!

Renault 12's have a 4 into 2, 2 into 1 header design as standard. So I would be surprised of any thing other than the very best aftermarket headers or extractors would be an improvement.

BTW, I think a lot of replacement downpipes have the two pipes joining just below the manifold, whereas I think the original design was for the Y piece to be about a metre or so along, near the gearbox. I think with the stock manifold, the longer double downpipe leading to a reasonable sized single pipe straight back to a good free flowing rear box (removing the middle box) would be a cost effective performance exhaust. Performance being relative, of course...

Daniel have a chat with the Engineers at Wade Cams, they'll ask for max rev's timing, what carby's etc, and where you want max torque. the sugest a cam for you. Have used them since you were a little joffa. With no complaints.
    cheers!
Ps. i have a carby off a 16TS if you want to try it!!! Has the choke removed though, also a 350 Holley, i think that might be overkill though.
    Health and good fortune always,

Daniel, I don't know of any grinds, but I've asked Paul from Autoparis on your other thread - lets hope he'll let us in on their secrets...
