Is it possible to change how the forums are displayed

I ask, Is is possible to have another view of the forums.

I hada look at the printer friendly version of a post. Its nice and clean and simple, and it loads nice and fast on 56k.

I personally don't need to see the pictures on the site, mainly for the sake of speed.

Is it possible to have a sort of text only version of the site?

    just a question.

Have a look at the FAQs, that should help. I used to be on 28kb modem (if lucky) and yes it was slow sometimes.

Try using Opera as your browser (free), many useful features, it will allow you to browse in text only mode and open images only if you wish. Much faster if you are on dail-up, sadly I have to use this setting toward the end of the month when having used my 3 gig limit, I am resricted to the equivalent of a 28k modem cry

    Cheers

The Déesse has all the characteristics of one of those objects fallen from another universe that fed the mania for novelty in the eighteenth century and a similar mania expressed by modern science fiction: the Déesse is first and foremost the new Nautilus.

For Mac users, Apple Safari http://www.apple.com/safari is *excellent*

It loads pages exceptionally quickly even on Optusnet Cable's '28.8kbps modem' speed when one goes over the transfer limit for the month. Much faster than IE6 on XP Pro.

The single biggest tip I can give people is to go into your profile (click my profile) and change the default display days to 5.

Part of the reason your browsing can be slow is if the server has to generate a page for 45 or 60 days of posts, it obviously is going to take longer than if it has to generate a page for 5 days of posts.

Do that, and I think you'll be surprised at how quick it is.

This site doesn't use many images... and the only ones of any significance are if people add their own images. Graemlims (smilies) are *tiny* - most are so small, even a 28.8k modem would download about 50 in a second.

    Derek.

Why not install another browser such as Netscape or Opera and have this set to not display images, then only use this browser for reading forums etc?

Then you can keep IE for viewing sites where you want to see the pics.

IE allows for this option too, under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced, then untick Show Pictures.

In Opera it's easy to turn images on and off, no need to go through a gizzilion menus. There's an icon in the bottom left corner that you click to control how images load - no images, cached images only, or load all images as normal. Nice 'n' easy.
