    How much is too much?

I made some enquiries recently regarding the Sandown 500. I was intending to go, as my dad and I have made it a regular event for as long as I can remember. I remember going a few years ago and the price was about $30 ,which I thought was verging on expensive....

You can imagine my suprise when I logged on to the Sandown website and found that the tickets for Sunday alone are $55 and they are $60+ if you buy them online through ticketek..

Am I alone in thinking this is excessive? Motorsport used to be one of the few affordable days of entertainment....

Economics in it's simplest form. Increase in demand (supply constant) results in a increase in price.
Of late the interest has grown greatly in the V8 supercar series & being the only race track in melbourne holding such an event alot more people would want to attend.

Unfortunetly the whole V8 scene has been taken away from the supporters and put in the hands of the market , hence the decision to axe the Phillip Island round next year & race in china (i think).

$55 is rather steep however if you belive it is world class motorsport then i suppose it is worth it.Personally i'd save my dollars for the GP.
    Thats my 2_cents

Rob Roy is a Hill climb circuit run by the MG Car Club sited in Christmas Hills, roughly between Eltham & Yarra Glen, spectator entry is $10 per person.

I think the V8 event are over rated for the cost, viewing will be better in a few weeks when it gets to the TV.
That said i'm going tomorrow, as a mate was given 2 tickets, by the Castrol team. I also think it's going to be wet & blowy, I live about 2k south of the track. The rain started here about 4.30, i could still here practice happening.

I agree with Purrr-geot, it's all to do with economics and demand. I'm a big motor racing fan, but the V8's don't excite me, I don't see how a two horse race can excite anyone and certainly would'nt pay $60 bucks to see it!
The other problem I have is that I prefer the Holdens to the Fords, but my favourite drivers are Ford drivers!
If you want to get value for money, see some variety and some real motor racing with plenty of overtaking go to the Pro-Car series next time it's in town. wink
You'll see everything from a Daihatsu Sirion to a Lamborghini Diablo racing!
    cheers!
