    Production Car 0-160-0 record

I know it's not French, but you rev heads and track drivers must be interested in this.

The Caterham Superlight R500 has just broken its own world record for the 0-160-0km/h run, done in 11.25 secs. It did 0-100 in 3.47 secs, 0-160 in 7.26 and braked (obviously) in around 4 secs. One of the Caterham guys reckons they'll break 11 secs once the driver gets more practice...

Even GTi-6's are too fat. Who'd be happy with mid 8's?

I would guess that if the 504 did 100 in less than 20 i would be happy

As a reference point (from my own backyard testing), my car gets to 160 in 22.2 seconds, and then back to zero in 5.5 seconds.

That Caterham is pretty quick wink

Geez your 504 must be a SLOW example of the marque (is it an auto?). I've rarely driven a manual one which can't do 100 in under 14 seconds. When tuned right so that you take it to 7000rpm, they can hit 100 in about 12 seconds. The 2nd-3rd gear change is slow and loses you alot of time, hence the discrepancy between Wheels tests and overseas tests of the 2 litre 504. Wheels measured them at 11.8 seconds 0-60mph using 1st and 2nd gear only, whilst other mags measured around 13sec 0-60mph using 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

The 505 2 litre sedan which weighs the same but has a lower diff ratio, takes about 12.5 seconds using 1st, 2nd and 3rd (they can't hold 2nd to 100kph because it's too low a gear).

The BA10 5 speed carby 505 accelerates better than the BA7 5 speed carby 505 due to lower ratios, but the measured 0-100kph figures are almost the same, probably because the BA7 looses less time during gearchanges (the BA10 is VERY slow to shift).

In early 2000, CAR did 0-100mph-0 in the Mclaren F1 in 11.5secs, beating the then fastest caterham. Nice to see it finally beaten (remembering the F1 is nearly a decade old now).

I was just wondering... Would it be useful to know the distance a car could achieve 100km/h in? What would that show compared to time?

The same Caterham model knocked that record off last year, and has now broken its own record.

Again from my own testing. 0-100 is achieved in 139 metres. 0-160 is achieved in 649 metres.
