    NEW 307WRC

    It's cofirmed
Peugeot will be using the 307 Coupe Cabriole (justin has big grin ). Everything in the car is new so nothing from the 206 (dam). What are everyones thoughts? Is Peugeots marketing department going to ruin our dominance of the WRC? The pic below is just an artist impression.

Thats true, do you think Peugeot went with the 307 coupe as oppose to the 307 hatch purely for marketing reasons? Love to get a better look of the rear, the aerodynamics of the coupe do seem to favour Peugeots decision to use the 307coupe though.

I suspect the its lower height was an attractive factor from an engineering point of view.

I'm sure the rally drivers could survive with a little less headroom

I assume the WRC car will have a fixed roof for structual rigidity?

I don't mind it, although the 307CC tends to look a little feminine so they better make a decent body kit (and bring back the silver colouring!).

wasn't there a post in this forum not long ago about that with an actual photo of the rally car which was leaked?

I hope this car does as well as the 206WRC, otherwise we are going to see some1 like Ford winning the championships

I personally don't like the look of it.

If only Marlboro would allow it, i got a shock of my life when i saw this year 206 in red, the best paint job was the navy blue on the Prost-F1.

Why on earth would they use the design of a car with all the extra supports of a softtop? And since when have rally cars done anything more than resemble real cars?

I don't like the look of the 307 much. The car looks like the back suspension is too high, a bit like the toyota corolla ( i think). I suppose its good for aerodynamics but i like the look of the bonnet and the windsheild looking separate a bit, it makes the car seem like it has a cockpit or somthing. No offence justin

The 206 had been developed as far as Peugeot thought it could .... in 2003 they are really running with a 2001/2002 car - unlike the Citroens, Fords and Subaru's 2003 cars.

Peugeot think the extra wheelbase will make the 307 WRC a more all round car. A bit more stable on the rougher events. .. whether it will be as nimble as the 206?, is yet to be seen. The 307CC shape was the only logical choice ... the waist line on the other 307's is just too high.

yeah thats a very good point, the longer wheel base should help. It looks like the car may be a good little package.

Hopefully like you say the new car will be as nimble as the 206.

I rember seeing the Gronholm 2 years ago at the Telstra rally Aus' in WA, the 206 glided through the air and landed so much more gracefully then any other car, it was such a tight little package that was just an amazing car to watch. All the other cars, especially the WRX were these clunky things that bumped and bounced through the course.

What will the engine be on the new WRC?

Not disagreeing with you, I'd love to see a 307 4WD Turbo .. cost will be the issue, unless it's WRX territory $$$ and WRX kinda speed, it'd be hard to sell one (the 307cc will be $50+k)

sad to say, peugeot will never sell 4WD cars to the general populace. its not in their marketing plans to make any 4WD related vehicle for consumer use... unless they decide to move back into the US market... but even then, a SUV type vehicle would be first, before any 'EVO/WRX' type of car would be considered.

they did make a low quantity of 4WD 405s in the early nineties though but they werent for sale generally. these 405s were custom built and featured many technological advanced stuff you can find on the 1st generation 206WRC. a friend of mine in germany owns one of these rare beasts and he regularly trashes evos and wrexes... the 4WD 405 is almost a full blown rally car dressed in 'tame' clothes. not bad for something made in the early 90s!!
