How did you discover Aussiefrogs?

Just reading jfn306's thread has inspired me to write this thread.

How did you discover Aussiefrogs?

You can all blame Derek for bringing me here (actually, I suspect he's probably brought the most members to AF) I was asking about aircon in the newsgroups last year and he replied, as well as a link to join the forum.

Justin,

I've got a 306 with climate control aircon and it's one of the best (and
quickest to cool) cars I know. I'm in Sydney, and spent alot of time between
the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast over summer. I leave it set on 21
degrees on Auto with recirculate on. When you jump in the car and start it
up, the fan almost blasts you away, but within a minute or two the speed
drops back down to maintain the speed. If the 306 is that good, I'd
imagine the 307 is better.

If you're worried about running the aircon all the time - don't. I've
tested my fuel consumption with it on and with it off for a whole tank at a
time and I can't see any noticable difference. I drove from Southport -
Sydney (870km) on one tank, with aircon on, at 110-120km/h at an average of
6.25l/100km. Can't complain about that.

Do you know about aussiefrogs? Have a look: http://www.aussiefrogs.com
(join the forum!)
Derek.
The rest is history.

It's been a great time here. Unlike some forums, it's more than just great discussion - there's a community here. I've found it has the best community of the forums I frequent - looking at jfn306's post, I'd suspect amongst active users, his experience are similar - there's a community that extends beyond text on a screen, people on this forum actually know each other, many have met fellow board members.

I've learnt a lot from the forum, met lots of great people and had a lot of fun discussions.

And well, who knows, some here might've learnt more about Volvos here than in their entire life :p

So here's a pat on the back to all the moderators and for gibgib for giving us the forum, and to DCSI for giving it a home in cyberspace cheers!

Cheers,

Justin

NJM told me about it when I was visiting a Telstra Bigpond newsgroup and there was a thread about the best Rally cars.

NJM and I went off on a thread of our own talking about Pug's and he pointed me towards this site wink

I found it on a web search when I was looking for GTi6 info, while car hunting.

Here is me when I was a wee tadpole: wink

I've been on here for about a year, I think I was just doing a search for 505s in general as I'd just got mine and wanted more info on it, and the search brought up this site.

Looking back through some of my posts, I've noticed that a lot of the stuff I asked about I still haven't got around to fixing! Lack of money being the main problem. disappro

Thanks to everyone who has helped out over the past year, and yeah, it's been great that many of us have got to know each other in "real life" away from the forum.

Here's to another year cheers! a_drink

I was trawling the internet for Peugeot info when I came across a great site about 504s www.504.org. There was a links page on this site that had a link to Dave McBean's site, the Fiveohs index. In the links page there I saw Aussiefrogs, but the link wouldn't open. I was curious however, and when I saw it on the Peugeot club links site (Victoria I think) I tried again. The link worked, and I am hooked.
I haven't met anyone on the forum yet, but I have spoken on the phone to 405_Mi16 (Ben), and emailed and Private Messaged a few members.
I spend most of my internet time on the Froggy Forum nowadays. It is always interesting.
Good on you for starting it Gibgib! cheers!

I heard about the site from Auto france in Artarmon.I was there getting parts and this guy was talking to another guy about a car he saw on there?
So I tapped him on the shoulder and asked what he was talking about. He said "youve gotta get on there mate its tops"?
I thought "ok then". . I then registered and then the rest is history. Its a great site. I think our brochures as well as the relevent club details should be sold with the new cars too...

Yes yes yes I remember that post that brought you here Justin

Just kidding!

I didn't actually discover it myself. My dad did (and he never posts!) He was having troubles with earthing on the XM and was looking for some troubleshooting help.

I was thinking about buying a Xsara, and was searching the internet looking for reviews, etc. I found the NSW Citroen club and emailed UFO re any reviews etc he could point me to, and he pointed me toward his NZ VTS review in AF.
I signed up about a month or two before I bought my VTR, and 9 months later I have just clicked over 10,000 k and am really happy with the little bugger.

I have been a Pug enthusiast for a decade now,
but i didn't particulary like the Pug club os SA
(They were all old, and i didn't fit in, being only 18 when i got my first Pug)

I was told about Aussiefrogs by AutoParis in Melbourne.
I haven't looked back....

I was caught by officer Andreas who shot me with his gamma ray gun and took me to to his leader... the punishment for driving a Pug was to either death by baboomba or an eternity of logging into Aussie Frogs. So mamma if u're listening....

I said nothing of the sort. I just chucked the keys across and had to pry you out of it with a crowbar shortly after you took my puggy for a run. and dint want to swap back :p
Didnt take you long to change the springs afterwards either.

Like Lincoln I google'd it.

btw. Lincoln did you get the oil analisis results for the GTi back from Paul yet?

yeah i did. did i mention that on here, or have you been talking to Paul? They just did a voltage reading on the oil, calibrated against fresh oil. With full synthetic, a reading of 8V means the oil isn't good anymore. After 20,000 kms, with 3 oil filter changes and top ups, my reading was 5.3V, which indicates the oil was in fairly good condition.
I didn't get a full analysis done on it, which I would've wanted, but it at least gives an indication of the water and metal deposits left in the oil after that many kms. In comparison, Neo in Paul's 505 GTi was 2.7V after 8000kms. I'll be interested as to what his reading is after 20000kms though. As I don't know waht Amsoil read at 8000kms...
In typical AF style, we have tangented, so I'll ask how your Mobil 1 is going and have you seen the new Mobil 1 launched the other week?
