    A "Postcard" from England.

From a UK board comes this posting.

"At Belton in Lincolnshire the police proudly put up a sign declaring that 1192 speeding motorists had been caught. Their pride must have been short-lived since a group of local residents added their own sign below it announcing that over the same time period, the police had caught zero burglars."

It was met with howls of laughter as apparently the British PM had a slogan: "Tough on crime, tough on causes of crime!!" roll_lau roll_lau

Nice to know they've got their priorities right also?? deal

No wonder nobody takes them seriously. mallet Alan S

One wonders just how close this is to the truth...

Tonight on Today Tonight there was an item about out of control kids in West Dubbo, the damage they were doing and how powerless the police were to do anything about it.

"But," I thought, as the Superintendant said he had his men follow up every complaing, "how many police operate Highway Patrol out of Dubbo?"

From one who grew up in Dubbo, this "problem" has been going on for well over 20 years. Every now and then one of the do gooder Current Wind Up programs would come and do a "story" about it and get the locals excited.

The prob in West Dubbo is no worse than in any other major town and the only change is the cultural stereo type that is targetted. Look at Liverpool in western Sydney!

Mind you, too many highway patrol operate out of Dubbo - as I learnt one day many years ago tongue mallet

As I often say; it seems to be going on Worldwide. All these highly paid senior Public Servants greatest claim to fame seems to be following whatever someone else is doing regardless of how ineffective it is.
I recently "blew up" after I had 15 shotgun & high powered rifle shots whistling around my ears & it took 3/4 hour for the whallopers to respond. When inquiring why, I was told they had a "domestic" to attend to on the way over. When things reached the level of "brass" being involved, I was told it was a manpower problem as they could have been tied up on RBT or Radar duties; that's when I almost got an offensive language charge dropped on me!!
Incidentally, I was also advised that unless I actually saw the guy firing the gun, there was nothing that could be done & it possibly was only aerosol cans blowing up in a fire that caused the noise even though the flash could be seen about 2 metres off the ground.
My offer to supply the torch for the officer to do the identifying was not accepted.
It also seems that 35 call outs in a street with only about a dozen houses in it in 8 months is a bit extreme but they can't get enough evidence to lay any charges. The fact it takes any sort of time regardless of the problem is immaterial; "priorities" is the operative word & obviously RBTs & Radars take precedence over a potential gun fatality.
I'll keep all informed when the internal investigation is completed. 'fraid the bloody patience has run out with these cowboys.

My nephew's horror story of calling the police on the Gold Coast is enough to make you wonder...

No answer on the phone, then you're told the next morning (when there is someone there to answer the phone) that you should have rung last night!

This has happened to him repeatedly... again, out of control kids on his block.

were they burning down the houses, causing riots in town, setting fire to anything that didn't move and if it did move they stole it, rammed it into anything that didn't move then burned it all at the average age of 14 when you were there ?

i was in the heart of west dubbo for a while but i won't go into great detail of certain events i am more than happy i am no longer there but the police have no control what so ever there and they hardly ever catch who they are ofter
hell i even witnessed a bloke bite his other 1/2's ear off and stayed there untill fair dinkum 10 sec before the boys in blue turned up and he took off and was never caught
he headed back out to bourke from what my neighbour told me (who was about the only other person that was normal there)
we used to wake up to stolen cars bieng driven by 13yr olds around the streets hitting everything they could possibly find including the gordon centre that was built for them (go figure)
anyway they are some of the very tame stories i have

In the few minutes I ever spent in Bourke, a doctor came and told me how he'd pulled up, got out of his car to stretch his legs, some kids reached past him and took some medical equipment off the seat while he stood there...

Then they realised it wasn't something they could use or sell... so they threw it down and trashed it.

    "Déesse" Roland Barthes, 'Mythologies', 1957

The Déesse has all the characteristics of one of those objects fallen from another universe that fed the mania for novelty in the eighteenth century and a similar mania expressed by modern science fiction: the Déesse is first and foremost the new Nautilus.

Thanks... I've put that before an adoring public... nobody seems to have noticed yet, though.
