    Rallying

Does anyone on here rally a frog? Been toying with the idea of building the parts Fuego into a rally cars at whatever is the entry level. Was wondering about basics like how expensive, how hard etc it is to get into.

    Damian,
I'm interested to find there is a Kyneton Car Club given my 17TS is garaged at Woodend that might be handy.
Haakon, I am working on my 17TS to do a bit of Novice rallying and see how we go. I've navigated for a guy before and you need the following:
    Car Club Membership
    Cams basic licence
    A fire extinguisher
    A set of triangles
A roadworthy car (need to pass scrutineering)

Then you can enter any car clubs novice rallies. The cams licence used to be a matter of shelling out some dollars. Don't know if you need to actually sit a test these days.

From what I saw you could win a novice rally in a stock std R10. The ones I went in most of the competitors were in exotic makes like Ford Telstars and they didn't even break them into a slide (I think it was fear of the unknown)
You can do three novice rallies before having to step up a class.
    Hope this helps.
    Paul

    Hi Guys
For your info, Kyneton car club has been going around 45 yrs. I was President in '98 & only gave it up after seperation & divorce, led me back to melb. All the mod's to my R10 have made it bitumen only however Kyneton have a great Dirt Autocross track at Rollinson Reserve.
Current President is Peter Davis Ph 54286302 or for you Haakon Bendigo has its own club & track located near Epsom a contact number can be found on the CAMS site under clubs

You need at least 2 litres of fire extinguisher. So you can get one 2 litre one ( a bit tedious if your on fire) or 2x 1 litres. Don't get any of that stuff until you're about to enter your rally 'coz they will be able to tell you everything. Peugeot Car Club of Victoria did a rally a couple of months ago, but it isn't just for pugs. My friends entered an escort and a datsun 1200 coupe. The next novice rally is in august or something i think but you could find out by ringing PCCV and asking them about their next event and of any other clubs who organise events. Also the Car club of RMIT (CCRMIT) do a lot of rallies and autocrosses.
You need to be a member of any car club to get a cams license and there isn't any test. I think the year one cost about $50. You don't need to be a member of the club that organises the rally. The is a rally shop near vermont and boronia that also organises a lot of rallies. Even Revolution Racegear might be able to give you info. I hope you live in VIC otherwise most of this was useless

If you only intend to Rally then the CAMS 2R License is cheaper, however if you think speed events look good ie. Sprints, Autocross or Hillclimbs. then the 2S license is req'd currently $98

You can do novice rallies with a 2NS, but it will cost money to upgrade later to a 2S, maybe best to go for a 2S.
Unfortunately you need to have a National Rally Licence to do other than novice events. These cost the best part of $200 and you need to sit an exam, on the net, and be subjected to a practical evaluation of your driving ability (autocross and motorkhana).
On top of that you need to have a CAMS aproved full roll cage fitted to your car for anything other than novice and certain types of navigational events.
There are about 5 novice events throughout the year, so it is worthwile to have a go in a road car.

Anyone noticed that on the CAMS website in the "getting started" section for Khana etc that they show a 306, probably N5 XSi

Just seemed a strange car to have, would have expected something more mainstream.......
