    Default Intermittent problem...no excelleration

Why does my car always decide to play up when my mechanic goes on holidays..................?

It's only happenned a few times so far in the last few days. Sometimes when taking off there is no excelleration (505 petrol GTi). Today it happened in traffic. It seems to be rectified by "putting my foot down" on the excellerator. Could something like this be dirty spark plugs?

I couldn't even see a fuel filter any where. I used to understand a bit about the anatomy of my 504 but the 505 has me puzzled. I guess it's a bit silly to try and trouble-shoot on a forum. I'm just worried in case it is dangerous, like if it happens at the wrong time. Anyway, obvious cause suggestions welcome.

If you want more 'excelleration' perhaps you would be better off purchasing a Hyundai... although personally, I would advise against this. But your car should still accelerate.

Seriously, I'm sure a check of plugs, points, fuel filter or air filter will yield some results. Perhaps a bit more information about when it manifests itself would assist; ie does it only occur in hot weather/cold weather, hot engine/cold engine, short trips/long trips- that sort of thing.. Good luck anyway Kaye.

Looks like it was spark plugs. New plugs two weeks ago and it hasn't done it since.

yeah dirty plugs will give some odd running problems!

soak em in brake fluid (best cleaner there is)
then get a butane torch & burn it off...
then mechanically the rest will come off really easily!
