    Default 206 GTI 02 vs 206 GTI 03

Hi guys its me again. Looks like Im buying GTI, and there is few $1000s difference in price between 2002 and 2003 model. Besides coloured bumpers, is 2003 model better then 2002, so its worth paying much more?

I think that warranty doesn't play part here since 2003 206s have 2 year warranty which is running out now.

    when did they introduce multiplexing?

    My 206 was pre mux

    was in 2002 or 2001?

I don't think there is much difference between MY02 and MY03 apart from the coloured bumpers and the lion on the rear hatch

Multiplexing in my laymans terms is where signals to operate electrical equipment goes down thru less wires than normaly in a wiring loom. This saves weight.

Some of the later model 206 had six airbags and electronic stability altho I dont know when this came in. Probably 2004.

I have a december 202 206 and it is a great car. I had a Citroen Xsara 2ltr manual before this and it was smoother and quieter but not so much fun factor.

Both are good cars and I went for the 206 because I wanted one!

So spending $2000 extra on 2003 GTI model ( with no warranty) is waste of money? Thanks for answers guys .

    And does 2002 have multiplexing?

Pretty sure have seen a couple advertised a while back.

There are three 2003 models and they range from 19,700km to 21 800km (there is one 39,000km).
    2002 models are 32,500km and 44,000km.

2003 models around $20-21k (they have been priced around $23k, but i took them down to $20k)

2002 models priced from $17,400 to $20K (room to negotiate as well)

    Thaks guys

I thought that Mux came in mid 2001, when the first 1.6 16V models were released.

Ah the Semi Mux cars (known as mux 1.5, Com2000 but no central trip computer etc). Yes the first switch over was sometime in 2001 (depending on model), then another switch in 2002, so you will find 2002 built GTi's with and without full mux (Seen a Jan 2002 with mux1.5 and a August 2002 with mux 2.0) ...

    Confusing

Hmm, pretty close k's, how about the colours?
Sounds like every 10000k's for roughly $2k, but definetly set your eyes on the lowest k'd, keeping in mind that if you want to go by the books, timing belt (which costs some $600+ for labour etc) on the 02's are due next year (every 80k km's or 4 years)

As for warranty, you can arrange for those added warranty through finance (if you are, but it's a $1k set back approx from memory).

Well in that case it's getting down to subjective stuff. Personally I wouldn't be concerned with the 4 yr rule, but I know some people get pretty testy when it comes to timing belts

I think if warranty is not an issue for you then you will just have to look at them. Seriously, pick the one that has been looked after the best and has the most honest-acting owner

I'd also pick the one that hadn't been fiddled with (ie. silly ricer boy mods like noisy exhausts and induction kits) and ask some nice probing questions about their service histories.

If none of these tips help you decide then just pick a colour you like
    Regards,

    Simon
