Icon6 how do i post an avatar larger than allowed

    hey guys,
am only posting a thread as contacted mod but never got response ( yet ) and couldnt find answer in faq
basically i would like to have an avatar and am even willing to host it myself, there is supposed to be a 100x100 size limit but there are a few guys on here with avatars over that size, just wonder what the secret is.
    here is the pic
    http://www.dontsignanything.com/images/froggy1.JPG
i would like to have as my avatar, its not too much bigger and i am hosting it.
didnt really want to post a message but cant figure it out any other way to upload/use a slightly larger pic
    any advice appreciated, thanks

levit8, your image falls just outside the maximum permited size. Resize at a slightly lower resolution and it will be fine.

The maximum size for your custom image is 150 by 150 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller).
    Cheers

    thanks for response chris
not sure what the hell is going on here as this is the message i get when trying to upload my pic to my avatar either from my computer or hosting on my server,

    vBulletin Message
That image is too large. The maximum dimensions are 100 by 100 pixels.

so dont know where your message came from, have resized the image i am hosting so it is just under 150 pixels wide now but it still doesnt load
    please explain

perhaps even create a new user name to test out this theory as it wont load for me ,thanks

    Jeff,

I tried your avatar (http://www.dontsignanything.com/images/froggy1.JPG) yesterday. It is easily within the size and dimension and it worked OK for me...

Just incase you're missing a basic step:

    a, Enter the User CP,

b, Click on Edit Avatar menu,

    c,
Make sure you select the following :

d, Once done, click the Save Changes button and all should be sweet...

    Regards,

    Richard

    thanks richard,
i just tried it again and done exactly as you suggested ( which is how i done previously ), still doesnt work for me, got same message

    vBulletin Message

maybe you mods have more leeway than regular users, that why i reckon you should start up a test user name with a hotmail address or something not connected to being a mod, just to see if size limit happens with you guys, am very curious as to outcome

edit- forgot to mention but at bottom of my edit avatar page there is this message different to yours prior to uploading

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 9.8 KB (whichever is smaller).

The avatar looks dirty and greasy ...... Grease Monkey approves

I hope Grease Monkey can find his original avatar now

Are you putting the full URL in the URL box then selecting "save changes" ??

I seem to remember that when in the "tadpole" state the size limit is 100*100. As you progress to a "fellow frogger" the size allowed went up to 150*150.

I haven't looked, but is that pic bigger than 100*100?

This has been found to be true.
It's now a level playing field & everyone is set to 150X150 @15k so give it another go.

I would love to be able to post bigger avatars but it just says they are always too big.
Just get the moderators to do it if you ask nicely?
