PARIS (MarketWatch) -- Ford Motor Co. (F) and PSA Peugeot-Citroen (12150.FR) said Wednesday they plan to spend EUR332 million to develop two new diesel engines in a further expansion of a partnership that began in 2001.

The two companies already manufacture four diesel engines, ranging from a 1.4 liter common-rail turbo diesel used in the Ford Fiesta, in the Peugeot 206 and 307 and Citroen C2 and C3 to a high-performance V6 six-cylinder power plant used for the Land Rover Discovery, the Range Rover Sport and the new Jaguar XJ.

The next phase of the partnership involves the manufacture of two new engines.

Ford will produce a 2.2-liter commercial vehicle engine at its plant at Dagenham, England, while the French company will make a similar-sized but up-market, high-output engine for the medium to large executive sedans of both companies. These engines will be made at Peugeot's plant at Tremery, in Eastern France.

Up to 200,000 units of each engine will be produced annually.
