Default Smash repairers in Canberra & car rentals

I got a call from insurance today approving the claim and referring the car to Bars Fix Cars in Mitchell.

Seeing that I barely know shopping centres around the capital (I need to see a dentist and a hairdresser asap too), let alone smash repairers, do you have any ideas about them guys?

Any help will be appreciated! Also, if someone has a small go'er of a car hanging in the driveway, I wouldn't mind 'renting' it out of you for the next couple weeks, I promise to limit my trips between Hackett and ANU and fill her up with 98octane.

    Cheers for you all

I dont know a huge amount about Bars, other than they have a lot of apprentices (or used to), and that I wouldnt go there. If I had a euro, I would be straight over to Farrugia, if my insurance company let me. Who are you with?

As for hairdressers and dentists, most places in civic are OK, although I know nothing about dentists. H

Hope you get back on the road soon.

Are you referring to Tony Farrugia Bodyworks? And how special is their work?

We took ours there when our car got a small scrape from a serial accidentiste. Very good work, I would recommend them and we had no problems with our insurance company (NRMA). You could ask them about a courtesy car, but many repairers these days just have a deal with a hire car company and you get a reduced rate.

My regular guy (no, I dont have a lot of prangs, he has just done a bunch of work for me over the time I have ben bringing the Mk2 back to pristine condition, but I have been hit 3 times. ) at progress motors in Queanbeyan is a legend, but is sick at the moment, and if I had a dingle now, I would try to get into Farrugias.

I agree that Tony Farrugias work is very well regarded around town and would be my repairer of choice. (Given this, Sophie is about to go for a holiday at Schenks in Lidcombe!)

Also agree with mrgolf about Bars. (mrgolf has such good taste in most things - except his choice of marque! Am working on that slowly though

Dentist: Warwick Smyth, Curtin Chambers, 02 6285 2222. Might not be taking new clients, but other dentist in practice are very good too.

Hair: Lush, Kingston, 6295 2170, or Next, Mort Street Braddon. Both quite Exxy though.

Let us know how you get on...

Where do you normally park your car? I live in Watson and generally drive every day to work in Civic. If you get undercover/safer parking than the open car park near law courts (just gone up to $7.50/day), I'd be happy to come to some sort of arrangement where I pick you up in morning, you drop me off at work in Civic, etc. Give me a call if you like and we can discuss.

Farrugias are 'waiting' for the car to be dropped of, they anticipate tomorrow morning (boy they're taking it easy) delivery, same day assessment report, and approval through insurance by end of week.

If only we're in a perect world

Who owns a Typhoon? Give up. I did drive a GTI 180 on the weekend, and BFYB, it and the RSC own a MkV GTI, but I need room for drums. And I like build quality... Just jokes....

...and your last car was? Munro? You must think VW is a better marque than the general and the blue oval, surely.... Leading with my chin here....

But, yeah, I know why you have the Typhoon. All good, all good. How is it going, anyway?

    That's Ms Munro to you

'VW is a better marque than the general and the blue oval' - you know I couldn't say that out loud

What are you doing on Saturday? Lots of D's will be in front of old Parly House - including Sophie. C U there?

Agree, great avatar, but not my car. This yellow vision is owned by Rob B on the Citroen clubs forum (not sure if he shares same username here). I've not seen it, but have a few great photo's. Would be happy to email them if you PM me.

My Sophie is't quite this nice...yet. I'm always happy to swap rides and drives.

I'm looking forward to the DS Jubilee display in Canberra this Saturday afternoon outside old Parly House.

    Cheers

    Paul

    Ok, here is the update.

Accident took place on sunday afternoon, the car was taken by towing company to holding yard on sunday evening. Transported to Tony Farrugia's on wednsday morning. That is about it.

No assessement carried yet. 2 hours till close of business this afternoon, and they don't open on weekends.

A total of 6 calls with repairer's (speaking with 3 different people) 4 calls with insurance. The word from the latter that no damage report received till now; however they left a message re the inspection.

    Wait n See

Feel your pain. Mine was out of action for about 6 weeks. At least getting parts wont be as tough as for my car....
