Default New car sales August 2005

    Small Segment

    French:
    Peugeot 206: 107
    Smart Fortwo: 85
    Citroen C3: 74
    Renault Clio: 42
    Smart Forfour: 21
    Citroen C2: 11

    Others from the segment:

    1: Toyota Echo: 1455
    2: Hyndai Getz: 1351
3: Suzuki Swift: 838 (has it hit the spot or what!?)
    Volkswagen Polo: 113

    Less Small segment

    French:

    Peugeot 307: 238
    Citroen C4: 103
    Renault Megane: 88
    Citroen Xsara: 6

    Others from the segment:
    1: Toyota Corolla: 4783 ( )
    2: Holden Astra: 3290
3: Mazda 3: 2074 (They must have run out of them. Again.)
    Ford Focus: 922
    Volkswagen Golf: 750

    Medium car segment (luxury)

    French

    Peugeot 407: 108
    Citroen C5: 45
Renault Laguna: 39 (storms back to double figures, but are they dealer reg? )

    Others

    Honda Accord: 1479
    Mazda 6: 1324
    Subaru Liberty: 675

    Other French cars:

    Renault Scenic: 34
    Renault Kangoo: 46
    Citroen Berlingo: 30
    Renault Trafic: 18
    Peugeot Partner: 0
    Peugoet 607: 4

    Newsworthy items:
    Fold Falcon: 5826
    Holden Commodore: 5618

Now, if Warwick reads this, I wonder if he could explain the sheer insanity in the prestige segment last month. The new 3-Series is selling like, well, AK47's in Afghanistan (everyone has one?). And at the same time the 5-Series has taken off all of a sudden. Or is this all some kind of registration scheme by the dealers?

    BMW 3-Series: 693
    Mercedes C-Class: 310
    Audi A4: 235
    Lexus IS: 138
    Jag X-Type: 56

    And larger:

    BMW 5-Series: 214
    Mercedes E-Class: 165
    Mercedes CLS-Class: 76
    Lexus GS: 52
    Audi A6: 48

Rolls Royce sold one Phantom (@ $1m each) for every 2 607's Peugeot sold - not that that means anything but...

I should also say that last month was the first month (so says Alan Kohler) that new car sales outnumbered used car sales (although there is an obvious problem there, so he must mean for the first time in a long while). And that most used car sales have been private. Plenty of used bargains out there then, especially the larger French cars (Laguna, C5).

COTY is doing very, very well. I think 4WD sales are actually down this year if you exclude the Territory. I could be wrong.

Pajamas, I'm very jealous, you have full access to sales breakdowns don't you? I recall our discussion after that Maybach thread.

Is that Maybach still for sale? Haven't heard about it for a while. Apparently they are bringing the two door concept to the Sydney Motor show in October this year.

Just let me know if you would like any more stats...

Are you able to tell me how many of the BMW 5-Series are bought with the M-Sport package, or is that a bit too technical?

Otherwise a 525i vs 530i vs 545i breakdown would be awesome too. If possible

Also perhaps, the no. of Clio's sold that are the RSC?

    Cheers,

    Tim.

    Hmmm....

    FWIW

I just fed the following code into my spare cray supercomputer for processing (I got it at a NASA fire sale before you ask)

Chris Bangle designed car + look pretty damn good

    and it did the following:

    Cray Supercomputer Version 6.21
    Hardware Check - complete
    Software Check - complete
    ---------------------------------------

enter data field 1: chris bangle designed car
enter data field 2: look pretty damn good
    enter data field 3: action=compute

    computing...

    verifying results...

    printing result...

Result: you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane, you are insane...
Then it exploded into a ball of flames...

    Pity

The new 3's drive very well. Like em or not they are the latest and greatest, and people realise that they have got to replace the old car, and with time are starting to like the new 3's after initially holding back.
I have no idea why the 5's have started to take off, though BMW Australia have a few on their fleet at the moment.
The Sport is a much nicer 5 than the exec I reckon. It has given the range a lift now. I think the 5's are driving better than they were too. i.e. there have been some improvements.
I am in a 530i tonight, and it's quite enjoyable. More so than I remember.

But for every 7 three series there is one 407 sold and half a C5. Surprisingly high for the Frenchies.
Good to see the Swift doing well. It's a bold design and cute.
