Icon7 Not car related...Get OVER it guys and girls

I know this isn't a car thread, but you'll understand after reading it why.

Things change, people change. We all have different opinions about different issues. The world would be boring as bat poo if we all agreed all the time.
So a couple of sub-forums have been deleted. We will get through it believe me.

Why am I raving on you may ask?????.....................

Well in simple terms every day for me is a bonus. Today I had some great news, that makes the struggle worth it and also witnessed somethnig I hope I never have to see again. I have seen very few things that moved me as much as todays event did.
I was at 'Prince Charles Hospital' in Brisbane for a check-up. Whilst back in the general outpatients waiting room, waiting for my doc to have a letter signed so I can venteure O/S next week a toung boy came in with his
Mum and gran. He sat quietly for a while, playing eye-spy with his mum.
After 5 minutes of this his mother looked at him and asked him if he was sure about something. He nodded a yes. His mum and gran got up, disconnected his ventalator, his gran connected an air-viva bag, and his mum proceeded to evacuate his throat, with a small vacuum tube. You see this young man was just like Christopher Reeve, totally quadraplegic and dependant. I looked at him and said a short prayer thanking God for my health. (I am not religious and by no means very well currently...) For me to see this today and be thankful for what I have is really something. I am going to the USA over the school holidays, and I am able to walk and enjoy Disneyland and several other tours and fun thigns my wife and I have organised for us all to do.
We all are so guity of taking so much for granted, even those of us who have plenty to be thankful for,( like the last 18years of life) that we should reguarly pause and be thankful for the simple things in life.

Sorry if I am coming across as a nagging parent but I think that a few should pull their heads in, stop the jibes dressed up as jokes and let the mods do their jobs so our forum can survive like it deserves to and not die a slow and painful death. If we don't all work in the same direction, I feel our forum is in danger. New posts and email notifiications have dropped off signifiicantly since the blaze and I don't think the cull of sub-forums is totally to blame.
Lets put the events of August behind us, look forward to a refreshed forum in September and all try and get along, keep the disagreements civil and accept difering opinions for what they are, opinions.

    Chris ...for all

    Thanks Ken.
We plan to enjoy it like you would never believe mate. Even more so after today. I am glad that Sue had actaully gone for a walk to the loo at that time and was spared. It really put thigns in perspective for me. I am jot too religious as I say, but that isn't the first time I have had a moment of reflection wher I have looked at thigns form anothjer angle and seen a shine I couldn't from my normal angle. May-be I should take notice of the message!!

THANK YOU FOR REMINDING US ALL OF THIS.

personnally I wasn't aware there were problems on the forums, other than last week after I wrote a tongue in cheek reply I was zapped out, and the post disappeared.
Let's concentrate on what you saw today. I spent myself a couple of weeks at the QE II hospital Brisbane last
month and can ABSOLUTELY relate to your experience.
    Thank you again.

I too had reason to be at QEII a few months back and if anyone needs proof that our Health system has problems they need only compare the QEII of now and of years past. My opinion of the ward at QEII I had the misfortune of seeing is that the patients are there in a holding pattern for non-existant nursing home beds.

on to be at QEII a few months

Yep they are absolutely over run but to be honest the nursing staff is still doing a great job despite the conditions there.

Best wishes for your health, thanx for your kind thoughts

Just a CHEEKY reminder that a thread like this probably would be better placed in the Toad Pond. This might be deemed off topic and locked....

Hope your trip to Disneyland goes well HKP, and try not to let THAT song get stuck in your head. I went 15 years ago and I am still scarred from it.

Let it go Stone Free - it will be back when it's deemed appropriate.

Enjoy disneyland mate. Are you going to California or Florida? My Fiancee has been to Florida and reckons she'll take me there one day... I wanna be a kid again!

You should too after the number of times you took us back there to repeat the circuit. Must convert that film clip of you dancing in the streets behind the Disney land on Parade, for showing via computer!

    HKP
Its a "small world" is such an uplifting and inspiring exhibit, it is a wonder it survives in this battered world of electronic whizz bang computerisation I look forward to hearing your experiences.

It was fantastic for us, and our US friends had collected unused tickets leftover from their visits and this enabled multiple visits to Disneyland and Its a small world . The joy in kids faces lasts a lifetime.

Disneyworld in Florida is a little more geared to entertaining the kid in all of us adults.

    Stonefree,
We are off to Aneheim. 6 nights, then to Vegas for 2, then to Arizona for 3 then back to a Pismo Beach, California for 3 nights to relax for a few days and actually do nothing much. pismo looks nice, quiet and similar to the NSW north coast.

Ken I'd pay to see footage like that, would be priceless
    Chris.......

Thanks for all the well wishes guys and gals. We will try to get to an Internet cafe and keep in touch and make you all jealous with some photos

Yes I like to embarras my daughter every now and then But I did appreciate her verse of thanks on fathers day

If you have friends in Vegas see if they can get hold of complimentary tickets (comps) for any of the major venues, The all you can eat smorgasboards at the Aladdin and Bellagios are excellent but the $80 US a head (Bellagios) means you would have to stay for hours to get your monies worth There is also a free car park that locals use above the casino at Bellagios if you want to park and watch the night fountain shows etc.

The Victoria dining room at the Barbary coast has wonderful service and their meal deals fabulous at a reasonable price, you might have to put your names down early on the list though as it is popular. Chuck a couple of quarters in the Uncle Sam slots at Harrahs and I hope they pay out like they did for me same with the Texas oil ones. or the froggy pond one.

small tip - carry a plastic bag with you, so you can empty your pockets etc into it at the airport xray machines, it keeps you stuff together for easy pick up after examination and you don't hold up others, just grab the bag and move on and repack in your pockets at leisure. same for kids stuff, saves heaps of time and no distractions.

For goodness sake, if you are going to Vegas, you have to eat on the balcony opposite the Bellegio - at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. That way you can enjoy the French cuisine and watch the fountain displays at the Bellagio all at the same time
