    Default Europa transaxle

Can the transaxle from a 1973 Lotus Europa be used in a Dauphine? He discribes itm as a Renault 352.

    Thanks,
    Scott

No, the diff is cut for driving in the opposite direction to that for the Dauphine drive, and the diff is not floppable to the other side. Also there is no provision for fitting the swing axles to the 352 casing. You will need a 330 transaxle from an R8/10. If you are just going for a modest upgrade of a stock R8/10/Alliance/Encore/Le Car 1.4 motor the stock gearbox should be fine. But if you are using the later 1.3 or a 1.4 motor you will need a late model bellhousing to suit the larger clutch. Or seeing you are from the States, the guts from a Le Car (R5) gearbox have been known to be stuffed into the type 330 transaxle too.
