I think some of these are just plain red light cameras. The one on the cnr of The Boulevard and Burke Rd Balwyn Nth is just a redlight camera.

5 cameras on the Eastern Fwy?? Where abouts???

You guys in VIC have alot more infringement cameras then we do.

One thing i dont like about melbourne just when you think you get done by a red light camera, SNAP you get done by speed camera at the same time.

I second that. I'm 90% positive that there are no cameras on the Eastern, or I'd have had a fine (or maybe several...) by now. Either that or my speedo needs to be recalibrated.

I remember reading something on another board somewhere about someone spotting cameras on the Eastern, at the Bulleen Rd onramp, but according to someone with some contacts at VicRoads, it's a traffic management camera that actually points up the ramp. Maybe someone's getting confused...?

Gives me such a warm inner glow just knowing that we're all sooooooo safe! We must be with so many "safety" cameras....

Hopefully things don't change when the eastern pushes its way through your neck of the woods! (Although I'll miss getting to drive the Oban Road rally stage^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H shortcut when it's completed)

I've always found it very, very strange that the South-Eastern is littered with cameras, yet they seem to have done nothing about the Eastern. I once postulated that it may be because there are fewer incidents on the Eastern, but for that to be the reason one would have to assume that speed cameras are used for traffic safety and not revenue raising...

yeah, i live just near the Oban Rally Sector... it used to be tons better when it was 100% dirt.

i really hope they dont put cameras on the Eastern when its finished, but i doubt that will happen.

Aaah, the good old days. There was one really tight bend that used to have an old Pug (405, maybe?) station wagon on the outside of the apex that looked like it was coated in decades of dust. I have had many a car very loose through that wonderfully twisty short burst of road!

yeah, before i got my Pug... i had the parents commodore sideways many a time around there. and i know the corner and car you mean too. buggered if i knew what colour is was supposed to be, or maybe there was a factory colour "Dust Brown"?

but lately ive taken to Park Rd, the roadabouts are too much fun, so is the sweeping corners.

if i catch a silver? Xantia going the Oban Rally, ill give you toot!

I think the Pug's original colour was "lurid orange" - I seem to recall seeing it all fresh and washed once, a long time ago, right before I sprayed a new layer of dirt over it.

Yep, a silver Xantia - either that, or a "dust brown" BX....

I think the cameras on the Eastern are to be installed. I got this list from a friend of mine and didn't check every item listed. Got done for 3km/h over the limit last week!

3km/h over the limit Take it to court .... Hell would bloody freeze over before I paid that.... Absolute scumbags

I think *ANYONE* that's gets issued a speed camera fine for less than 10% over the limit should immediatly without fail elect to take it to court. The court system would soon be burdened with such a staggering amount of court time required, they would have to throw the cameras in the bin (or schedule your court date for March 2054).... Seriously why are people just bending over and letting the government get away with this HAVE YOUR DAY IN COURT !!! They can't even prove these cameras are reliable within a 50% margin (eg: trucks doing 150+km/h uphill in peak hour traffic) ... So how the hell are we to believe there accurate to exactly 3km/h ... Certainly I'm bloody sure no car speedo is, even if they "think" the cameras are.

Talk about "guilty until proven innocent ... and even then still guilty" with these bloody devices.

Couple years ago, I meet an engineer who worked on a project for a company designing new speed cameras. (Guess they're installing them since 2003)

Speaking of margins of error, these devices are pretty accurate if they are installed on a track, optimised for the location, under optimum light conditions, measuring the speed of one vehicle.

However, real intersections/fwy strips are far from perfect. The positioning of the cameras requires a good degree of calibration, and while it will not be measuring the speed of one vehicle, but of birds and any moving objects, the precision of the so called safety devices can be questioned beyound any doubt.

Regardless of that, vicroads assess possible red light/speed cameras locations based on maximum revenue that can be achieved; ie how long would it take to recoup costs of installation and make profit on this intersection. Yes, they are a touch far from the real objective behind such system which is to help capture and penalise motroists who disobey or fail to abide by traffic rules, rules put to bring some order and safety to congested roads.

Accidents will always happen just like drivers will always speed, it is a double bonus for the system: More excuses for more cameras, and hence more revenue.

Ofcourse, when you go the airport, you want to catch that flight, or maybe pick up someone asap, you will do few k's over the limit. And ofcourse, after a long day at work in the CBD you want to get home by 6.30 for that warm dinner 45ks SE of Melbourne, so few k's over are worth that risk.

But let's face it, people are more affected from pollution than speeding. Those TAC ads about wipe off 5/lives do not take in count the condition of the vehicles nor of the roads (far from perfect), nor the alertness of the driver (along their accident avoidance skills). The true solution to all this chaos lies within far more factors than just driving on the speed limit (And trying to play-act-enforcing that through more cameras)

Design of accident avoidance systems within cars, along integrating a course for defensive driving as a liencse requisite, improving roads conditions all have greater potential of redudcing accidents than by freaking people out through ads.
Not everyone wants to go faster, but through proper training all drivers must take their cars to maximum speeds, only then avoiding a cat at 60k can suddenly become an easy task.

Have you ever read that Vicroads booklet, to my surprise between the lines it discourages people from getting owning a car, hell even getting a license altogether.

There should be a change of culture about speeding before roads can be made safer.
