Default Another urban myth bites the dust?

After getting slagged off at for daring to suggest that someone other than Purflux were capable of making an oil filter for a French car, I was a bit surprised to have this pop up on a list this morning.

    Hi,
    >
    > I have just bought an oil filter for my Xantia from GSF (along with a
    > load of other bits).
    >
    > What I got was a "Lautrete Filtration, Mecafilter" instead of the
    > (identical to Citroen) Purflux filter which they have always supplied
    > in the past.
    >
    > Does anyone know if this is a reputable brand of equivalent quality to
    > the genuine Purflux filter, or is it a piece of cheap shit that I
    > should replace at the earliest opportunity.

    This was the response;

Maybe 100% true .. but "Willie" as a source ... I'd like something a little more concrete then that please

"My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who heard Willie say Purflux isn't the only oil filter for Citroens last night. I guess it's pretty true."

Don't wanna put yer feet back on the deck with too big of thud, but I do know who "willie" is and he's a long time Citroen owner and owns a large Citroen service and spares business in Europe.

If you ever need any good used hard to get bits for your car, then I'll give you Willie's details. He once saved a guy near me oodles on a set of struts for an XM that weas even after paying extortionate freight and all the other costs.
Pretty fair dinkum guy is Willie.
Incidentally, I hope too many of you guys don't jump into this before I organise my order and the boys.

Spark plugs & Oil filter specials

A set of 4 of these plugs at SuperCheap are $39.95 and even that is cheap.
I have another source for the filters that is on par pricewise without the freight, but any of you guys who don't swamp Dave with that filter offer, particularly NSW and Vic owners, wants their heads read.

No arguments from me, Alan - though I hope they don't have "Made in UE" or "Made in CEE" on them - we don't want any wild speculation about where they are actually made now

"Lautrette et CIE" have been the manufacturers of Peugeot air filters for many years. 203 onwards until the 504 dry element type. I haven't heard of their oil filters.
I have used an Italian brand, "FISPA" in the past on my 404's etc.

If I could find the agent for "FRAM" filters I would use them if they could be easily and cheaply found.
