    Icon7 Performance GTi Mag!

Had some time to kill yesterday so went and browsed through a newsagent
and what did I find... a little UK mag called Performance GTi.
At first it didn't click with me, I just thought "cool its got an article about
a new Megane Race Car, oh wow an article about a modded Clio..."
Then it hit me, "Holy cow this mag is just about Renault, Peugeot and
Citroen hatchs and how people have modded or restored them"
Read it last night and while much of the content is a bit like
"Riceboys go French" there were plenty of good articles and great pics including
the new Megane Trophy Racer and a nice article on a Renault Gordini.

With all the ads for performance gear and other 'bits' its a mine of information
Incuding the release of a big Brembo Brake kit for the 182 Clio
    Serious stoppers indeed!

Yeah I use to buy it in Australia, however came to the conclusion that its not for "french owners" but more for the local lads of manchester who would love to NOS their mums laguna!

last time I bought that mag was about 2 years ago, they had an article on the Dima 206 (I think it had a 6cyl Ford engine in it).

It really is a mag for the UK ricer boys, even more so in the recent issues.

Yeah, I have a few issues although I would like to see more articles rather than the 70% ads that they run.

That megane racer is fully mean and if I had the $250000 to spare might consider importing one (that and a Clio V6). Some good articles have been when they stripped out a 205gti and knocked a second off the 0-60mph time.

Yeah, its quite funny, they all buy the 1.4L Clios, or 1L Cits and spend
thousands modding them, then sell them
Must be a disease of some sort. Still the Megane article was well
worth it, thats one mean looking car.

I also wasn't aware that in Europe they aren't allowed to modify the engine
for performance... Most be darn strict about it, and it probably explains
why some people buy the smaller engined cars then.

The Dima 206 had a 2l Cosworth turbo four and matching 4WD drivetrain. It was quick, but it's still no T16! That was a bit of a disappointment for me, seeing that they'd chosen not to use a Pug motor. Cheaper yes, but still not quite the same.
I bought this mag for about 5 or 6 issues (when I still had my Mi16) and it was intersesting, but by no means revolutionary. At 13.95 a copy it was hard to justify.
Most of the mods featured (I think) were very 'ricey'. One issue I read had a comparison of a heap of modded 106/205/206/309/405 GTi's and Mi16 engined cars. The fastest one did a 13.8 sec quarter from memory. Not that quick considering the parts they have at their disposal.

Its funny how Max Power went all ricey and nudies and now it seems this Gti Mag is heading the same way...just waiting for the girlies to appear.
I purchased the first few copies but gave up when it went rice/boy racer.

    Cheers,
In 1992 I hired a VW Golf and drove thru England and Scotland. We were pulled over up near inverness by police for a set up like a boose bus but not interested in my breath they checked the cars breath by inserting a probe up its exhaust.

So they must be into emission control /pollution.

I think alot of people over there (I know GTi6 owners anyway) take their catalytic converters off for a few extra bhp. I guess that is what they were looking for!
