Just joined yesterday, and have noticed you don't have an introductions area, might be something to think about just so people can say hi I'm here, this is a bit about me

Well, you've now got the floor to yourself, what do you do? Sing, Dance, tell jokes??

It's all yours.................................... we wait with baited breath

We often get people start off by making the first thread about themselves, so be our guest. Although it's possibly a good thing to do, it's just another forum that most wouldn't bother to read and could be open to abuse by those with postcount phobia.

You can talk about yourself in the user profile section. The advantage is your story is always there upfront and never gets buried in an old thread.

Kinda set myself up really didn't I just other forums I've been on have an introduction area, thought it seemed like a good idea .... not so much that you give your life story, but say hi, and sometimes people ask a few questions, and you get to know the new member maybe a bit better sometimes not.....

I've got an S16 have had it since 96. before that I drove a morris 1100 for 13 years. I got the S16 when the morrie died again, after I had just fixed it.... I was going to do the sensible thing and buy a corolla, but after test driving the S16 I couldn't resist (I test drove an XT first, but decided it was too gutless, worse than my (admittedly modiffied) 1100). the S16 was a bit of a change, but surprising similar in a lot of respects I did find however the extra power meant that I needed to modify my driving style a bit

The morris is sitting in the garage waiting for me to get motivated, and get it back into a state to be re-registered.

    So thats it really

At least we now know you've got a good sense of humour; glad to have you here.

Hope the board is as much help to you as it has been to many other French car enthusiasts...reckon you'll get on with most pretty well with that sporty attitude.

It's already been a help wish I'd found it ages ago! I just have to make sure I get out and do some of the stuff I need to, rather than going through the forum for hours on end to catch up with all the good stuff

Thanks for the welcome I'm sure I'll enjoy being a member here

    Default 1300

    Hi

I had the 1300 Morris! When I look back it is one car I remeber fondly. I hated having to buy it after getting married but I grew to respect it and enjoy it.

They can be made to move along well. In the traffic patrol I chased one on back country NZ roads for a considerable distance, then at an intersection a 160hp Valiant got between us and he started racing the Morris. I ended up catching the Valiant and when I eventually got the V8 Holden patrol car to stop the brakes were burning furiously.

The Valiant driver was swearing "That Morris it's got to have a V8 in it!"

I also caught the Morris as he had turned into his work place. "Open the bonnet I instructed the driver" Well it looked dead stock Morris 1300!

Unbelievable! My dad has both a Morris 1100 and a MG 1100. The morris needs a lot of non mechanical work (mechanincally A1.... that is A1 for a morris -ie steady oil leak, starts only between 28 and 29 degrees celcius, 0-100 in 28 seconds etc. ). But the MG is in absolute concourse condition - without much doubt the best example in the southern hemisphere.

    Very interesting.

Graelin, I cant believe the 1300 could outrun anything, much less a valliant... but there you are!

purrr-geot, that is some hella funny stuff.

Yes I found it hard to believe myself. Even more so the Valiant driver. He wasnt even annoyed at just being caught at 110kph in a 50 area. He just kept muttering "It's got a V8 in it" LOL

Although my friend had a Honda Civic at the time I had 1300. It felt much faster and he laughed about the gutless Morris. One day when he was accelerating flat out I pulled out and overtook him with the Morris, should have seen the look on his face!

I guess it was the way the Honda built up speed as the revs increased as against the flat power curve of the Morris that did not feel fast but was faster.

My 1100 has had a body transplant it now has a '69 1100S shell. after the original was rear ended by a drunk unregistered unlicenced driver.

My mum told me she heard on the radio at Forbes, that police were chasing a morris 1100 for two hours before they caught it (and this was in the late 80's) get them on a windy road and anything other than a froggy will have trouble keeping up

Have had many an adventure in it. the S16 was the first car that I drove than I reckoned handled better than it! Over the years, it got twin SU's a mild cam, heavier valve springs, bigger valves, taller diff ratio and the head ported..... only problem was it still didn't go up hills real well (probably due to the taller diff ratio) and the fuel economy in the city dropped from about 29mpg to 20mpg

I'd love to put a jack night cross flow head and 5 speed box in it but it has some other work which needs doing before I get to that!

    Tony.

PS I'm choosing to ignore purr-geot
