Default Seperating the parts for sale & wanted parts sections

    Hey
i thought i may just throw this up for debate.

Alot of forum users here specifically use the parts for sale/wanted section. Of late the parts wanted seems to be greater than the parts for sale. With everyone wanting parts these days, for sale posts are quickly put further down the list & within a few days are 2 pages away from where they started.

Could we seperate the two sections, this would give forum users a better chance to see whats out there & whats needed.
    thats my 2 rupees

    Default Partz wanted

Could the requests for parts also be sent (by email??) to the wreckers perhaps? This could speed up the process for obtaining parts. (they could send the reply back through the list, so maintaining anonymity if required)

We could seperate them. I'll start a poll in that forum and see what the people say. I don't use that section much so I'll leave it up to those that do.

Unfortunatly we cannot automatically send wanted threads to wreckers.

Yeah, I like it. However, there could be occasions where people don't check out the "opposite" section when posting stuff - I mean if someone was selling something, they should first check out the "Parts Wanted" section before posting in the "Parts for Sale" section, and vice versa.

Tough luck I guess - learn to read and use some common sense, people!

Basically I agree... people posting parts wanted should first check the for sales... and people posting parts for sale should first check the wanted ads.

But when threads get titled '504 gearbox' or 'R8 seats' then you don't know if you're opening a wanted or for sale ad. And after going through a few you'd soon get sick of opening for sale ads when you're looking for wanted ads!

And another forum I'd like to see is one that would take sound systems right away from everything else! I've opened dozens of threads to see what they're about and it's all junk about sound systems. Let them have their own space!

i think if people put either F/S or WTD in the heading it would be easier

as for sound systems i think they are fine as that is just another part of the car

they may not interest some but they do interest others in the same way some people like to read threads about 203/403 pugs and others like to read threads on the newer models

I think that would help too... but it doesn't happen!

So if it doesn't happen, why not make it all easier for everyone?

As for the sound systems, they are definitely not part of a car... they are an accessory. But people use terms in thread titles about sound systems that make them look like they're something else.

I find it very irritating to take the time to open a thread only to find it's about sound systems. I don't care whether or not they may be of interest to others, that's not the point at all.

If they had their own forum I would never have to waste my time with them. And I'm sure others feel the same way.

On the other hand, those with a deep interest in sound systems would love that forum!

There are too many if the last one was only a couple of weeks ago!

At one time there were plenty of them, and it will happen again... and wheels are an intrinsic part of the car.

Try driving down the street on some transisters some time!

sound systems to some people are just as important in a car as you may find say getting good fuel economy from your car

i'm not defending sound systems but everyone is different and that is what makes this forum work the way it does

Sound systems stay where they are for the moment. We have to balance pigeon-holeing topics with the complexity of too many forums. There seems to be more pressing topics which require a new forum at this stage.

well if there are 2 forums in the parts for sales section then people are going to have to learn to look before they leap, so to speak

no use having someone selling something and someone else posting they want the same thing but if they do then i'll just fix it all up

    i'm not worried either way

You said alloy wheels... and it wouldn't matter, they'd still be wheels!

These are things that make a big difference to the mobility of a car. Sound systems make no difference whatever!

Get them into their own forum, please. And I'll bet I'm not alone in asking that.

there was a thread about it either just before the new forums were added or just after but it was decided then that a separate forum for ICE wasn't warranted and neither was one for body kits either as that was also part of the discussion

ICE threads don't come up all that often and even when they do the people that are interested in them read and reply whilst others that aren't skip past and carry on with other threads

Well, I don't read them either... but I don't want to have to waste my time opening them to find out what they are because the name on the thread bears no indication of what it's about.

My 505 has alloy wheels. So how's this for an idea to incorporate that into another forum.

Let's have a separate forum entitled 'Let's Sort Out Matt's 505'. There are plenty of questions regarding my Pug as I sort out what has been done to it in it's illustrious life. So we could have a forum dedicated solely to that, think it of my interactive Haynes manual.

As I said, I've got alloy wheels. I'm also thinking of upgrading my sound system, so that would be included also.

    I think that's a win for everybody.

My problem with it is that the way it's going, it'll take 3 pages to scroll down all the various topics for all these forums.
We already have a couple of forums we have hidden due to space constraints namely Performance and the tips and tricks and neither get all that many viewers in comparison to others, so if these also get hidden, aren't we defeating the whole purpose?
Wouldn't it be easier to begin each title with "Wanted" or "For Sale" and then it's obvious what it is.
WE must remember that in lots of cases these are the forums used by newcomers, so are they going to find them, post in teh wrong ones or simply go the the marque forum and post there?

the thing about having a separate forum just for sound systems is only going to attract types we don't need to here

How about a separate Ray and Rambo section so that we can follow their conubial, conoodlings at our leisure?

Without wishing to offend you two titans of the FF, another thread completely overtaken by you'se guys nitpicking. Which is not benificial to anyone's enjoyment/understanding of the matter to hand.

Why not start your own section, cut & paste in whatever your interested in and go for it?

    Score to date: R & R 15, rest of the world 8.

Now just tell me which chopping block to put my head on.

How about this - when someone is creating a new Wanted or For Sale thread, is it possible to have a drop-down list or pop-up box appear that asks if you are posting a "Wanted" or "For Sale" thread. The creator of the thread has to choose one of the options before the thread is allowed to be put up on the forum.

The thread will then automatically put either [Wanted] or [For Sale] in front of the thread title, removing the need for the thread creator to do it.

No need for new forums, less confusion for new posters, and no more frustration for people searching through posts.

    Could this be easily implemented?
