Default Easy method for posting photos...

This is pinched straight from the Atlas F1 fora...

If you do not have a website and you wish to post an image from your hard drive on the Bulletin Board (provided that you own the copyright or have permission, of course), please note a new and very recommended service called Image Shack.

The service allows you to upload - without registration or any fee whatsoever - any image (up to 800kb) and provides you with the appropriate link to post on the BB. It even provides you with a thumbnail option that includes details of the image size and is linked to the large image - something I encourage you to use.

The images remain stored and available for a minimum of a year since they were last viewed (that is, if an image is not viewed for at least 1 year straight, it will be removed. Every time the image is viewed, the countdown is reset).

You can read more on their FAQ page, at http://www.imageshack.us/faq.php
It's an absolute bludge... between this and Irfanview (for resizing, cropping or changing the resolution of pics) there is no excuse for anyone to not share pics.

I think I've seen one pic posted this way...

Is anyone else going to use the system?

But do they allow direct linking for forum use?

I always thought Geocities did, but after using that for a while they stopped my pics from linking. Must have tracked it somehow, it was against their rules, didn't work any more.

This one is specific in allowing that to happen... despite the fact that their ads won't be seen when it does.

It's not specific for forum posting, but allows for it & other photo sharing or viewing needs. It has a 250kb limit (per pic) which is reasonable

    Imageshack's limit is 800kb, I think...

But you don't want to go over about 60kb (and preferably keep under 40kb) with stuff you put there for linking to forum posts.

hostmyfile.net has a 1Mb limit per file, but no bandwidth limits or membership requirements. Storage is indefinite.

Here's a shot from the weekend before last, on PCCV's run along the Grand Ridge Road in South Gippsland, one of about 50 hi- and medium-res shots that I uploaded.

    It's a 406, 405 and 307 disappearing into the distance.

Hmmm ... on second thoughts ... the technique works, but this might be best left to your discretion if you're bandwidth-challenged ...

Just to put this near the top, so more can see how easy it is to post piccies...

By the way, the pic size limit is 1200kb... but please keep them a lot smaller than that or we'll need a couple of monitors to see the whole pic at once.
