    Default walgett info

    Hi,
Just found the website. Is it just about cars?
I was hoping for some info about Walgett NSW. I am going there to work for 3 months from 20 Nov and would like some objective info.
    Can anyone help me?

OK much hotter than the south of France in summer. Major race relation problems. Very dry, not far from nowhere.... but for a few months it might be worth the experience.

The Police Station is opposite the Newsagent and is (fortunately) attended on a round the clock basis.

The 'resort' over the bridge and out of town is a total waste of time. Breakfast at the truckstop on the road to the south isn't too bad.

Not that far from Lightning Ridge...

    Welcome to the Froggy Forum.
Walgett is a long way from civilisation, its extreemly hot in summer, great winter weather though. The economy there is based on 2 things mainly- farming and grazing and Government payments ie dole or similar. High unemployment, a lot of indigenous Aussies and flies. The people that live there like it though. To each is own. Like 2 pugs said there is great hunting, feral pigs, kangaroos and foxes mainly. There is a abattoir there for the feral animals that also employs quite a few people I believe.
It should be a good experience for you, best of luck and don't buy a good car before you go there.

Now, now Scott.. it's illegal to hunt kangaroo's as they're a protected species

You can get a permit to cull a certian number and professional shooter can get permits to shoot them as well from what I understand.

There's no permit required to run them down with your car though...

Well it seems you are going to be in Walgett for the hottest part of the year. Expect 45 degree celcius days with very low humidity. You will probably find that most buildings are airconditioned and any car you drive should be too.

Are you going there to work in the cotton industry? Surely you could not be going there for fun?!?

Before you leave France, make sure you really enjoy the last real bread you will eat for three months!

Try this link for more information:

Remember that New South Wales is a BIG area. Consider that you could fit most of Western Europe into NSW. It would take you most of a day to drive from Sydney to Walgett. Most of the roads are single lane (each way). Probably not much better than your C roads in France. But hey, the petrol is still cheaper even at our rapidly increasing prices!

Actually, I might not be very young, but I am young.
