    Default Car Cover Crisis

    Hey,

My Dad has an older car and he is finding it very hard to keep it dry. It is not garaged and finds that water will start to leak into the car.

He has tried many things to keep the car dry. He has covered the car in a tarp but has found that the water still drains in to the car- it seeps through. Is this because it is a woven tarp and the moisture can still sink through in heavy rain?

His latest attempt was the purchasing of a car cover which was "Water Resistant" Water still got through

Does anyone on here have some suggestions for what we should do about keeping the car dry- can we paint the tarp/car cover in any kind of waterproof solution which can move freely with the car cover/tarp?

Anyother ideas which may keep the car dry?

    Thanks heaps froggers!

have you tried using a tarp over the car cover as well ?

maybe even like a fly type arrangement that tents have so you park under the tarp and then put the car cover on

    Hey

Thanks pugrambo for such a quick reply!

Ahhh ill havr to tell dad to try out the tarp and car cover on at the same time!

As for the tent style system- the car is parked out on the street so its impossible!

    Anyone else got some ideas?

Be careful with car covers please. I left my old '82 Mazda with immaculate paint under one for a year, pretty much exposed to all elements. When I took the cover off I found that water had gotten under the cover and stained/bleached the paint work. Just awful.

to prevent that use a blanket under the car cover with a tarp over the top of the cover

it's on old trick my mother taught me years ago and she still uses it till this day and it works
