    Default Most Boring French Car

Ok, we know the French are certainly not known for boring cars as a rule, no country has produced as many ground breaking & controversial designs as the French. But design flair & ingenuity aside, what do we all consider the most boring or 'flat' designs?? The ones that perhaps the Japs wouldnt even bother copying or have been made to satisfy more conservative markets. What do you think?? Let us know what makes you think "what were THEY thinking"?? Let us know if there are any I have missed & if so, why you think they are more mundane than the average Froggie! I havent included commercials even though the French manufacturers vans look a lot less drab than others. Basically which French car could you easily morph a Toyota badge onto without the blink of an eye.....& get away with it!!!

    404 pug
    307 pug

the 404 was/is a pretty boring car design wise and wasn't anything spectacular when it hit the market

the 307 is pretty much a common design as well and doesn't really stand out from the crowd

in that i take it you include the 605 (basically the same as a 405), 406 sedan/coupe/wagon and the 607

also not to forget the V6 505 that we never got here but still the same car that arrived here

there are many pugs with a V6 powering them along

Well the 604/5/7 certainly aren't cutting edge inspirtional models... that's for sure.. and the sales figures reinforce that...

I was primarily referring to the "6" series of Pugs...

And how anyone can not put the 180 Simca / Centura and Horizon (which even saw service in the US as the Dodge Omni from memory) at the list of most boring (and ordinary to boot) French cars is a mistery

...I'll get hammered for this but I hate the N3 306 Cabriolet... Everything about it is boring, except the looks. It has poor handling (in 306 terms), a weak, but thirsty little engine and lugs around alot of extra weight, the roof mech is somewhat slow, the brakes are poor (rear drums!), the hot aussie sun has quickly made a meal of the interior and the fact that most owners are not enthusiasts means that they have been poorly cared for too. The N5 Cab is so much nicer, and no were near as boring to drive... ironic coming from a N3 owner. - Chris

Come on guys, don't let the 307 beat the R19 here - I'm not the world's biggest fan of either, but at least the 307 does what it attempts to do, quite well, whereas the 19 just has nothing going for it.

    I don't know about that.

The Talbot Sunbeam-Lotus is hardly what you would call boring.

A Tagora V6 SX isn't exactly boring, well if you don't consider a 505/604 V6 boring then you can't really consider a Tagora V6 boring either.

The Samba 'Rallye' model or whatever it was called was pretty fun too.

The Renault 19 has to take it in my opinion.

    Definitely the 404.

If it was excitement you wanted, you drove a cart-sprung local or English car, a swing-axle German, or an American that handled like a waterbed. Trying to keep these things on the road - now that was exciting.

Do I wish I still had mine? You bet!

Definatly not the R19 or the R21 Marseille. They are both fine cars and real head turners.I like both of them.
The most boring car i would vote for is the Peugeot 505. How drab. Id much rather a Renault 25.

The 306 is another Drab car too in my opinion.

So, is the 19 of the same design period as the 307???

Last thursday's Herald Sun in Melbourne gave the early 406 8or9/20 and 12/20 for the post '92.
The 19 at least got 13/20.
But what would they know as they get to drive most cars if not all.

.....I changed my mind.......I think the OLD 205 four door has to take the cake.....especially in gunmetal ......looks like a crappy mitsubitshi colt.....Think about it...a 19 is really quite a GEM compared to the 4 door 205............Plus the fact that you could get one for a $1000 (according to orestes anyway), why would you bother with the 4 door 205????!!!!

Really... being funny about french cars is good... but this just isn't funny. So, i voted for all french cars and made a comment that reflected just how stupid i thought this thread was.
Man, you need to take a chill pill it was merely to encourage a bit of discussion on a topic that French cars "arent" generally known for & that is boring design. My thoughts are, that if you dont like the thread, its simple, dont post into it or read it. Just because we all like French cars doesnt mean we all need to be blinded to their "very few" deficiencies, as self aware adults surely we can debate good & bad points of something??? It seems your feelings may be a little hurt perhaps from the "206's are girls cars" thread???

Ah....I see the Renault 19 is now holding a comfortable lead...

This will be about the only accolade that they've ever won....

The Renault 19 is like a sedative on wheels...

BTW Daniel - The reasons people's heads turn when they see a Renault 19 is because they can't recognise what type of car it is and are looking for the Toyota badge on the back...

I love Renault's, but IMO the 19 does NOTHING better than an equivilent model Corolla...sorry, but true...and yes, I have driven both....

P.S - It may be a little more roomy than a Corolla...
