    Default September 'wheels' goes Froggy...

    G'day guys,

Just reading through the latest issue of wheels magazine and they have quite a few articles of interest for the French at heart.

In their 'Top 10' section they have the, "top 10 underated cars" in which the Peugeot 404, Renault 16 and Citroen XM all feature.

After giving the Pug 404's ride and handling a huge rap, during which the writer also refers to the 404 as "one of the world's best cars - regardless of price" the paragraph ends with,"Look at modern-day Peugeots, and your left wondering where the French marque went wrong.... (I'm picking he aint a 206/307 fan

On the down side, the Pug206Gti was in the "overated and over them" section along with the HR Holden and VT Commodore...

In their God or Dog segment, they have the Peugeot 205GTi on the leash and it get's the"God" rating, but it get's, what I consider to be an accurate (but not always kind) assessment of it's strength's and weaknesses...(I'm not as overawed by the 205 as many here and from my experience have found them to be a bit overated and not particualry great on normal aussie roads )

In the free mag that comes with the Sept issue, there is also a good review between the Clio Sport and the Mini Cooper S.

The Clio wins the test in nearly all aspect, except showroom appeal (geez, sounds kinda familiar ) and finishes with 5 stars, to the Mini's 4.

I think the last paragraph of the test sums the 2 cars up perfectly,

"The Renault Clio Sport is quicker, more eager, a more involving drive, and has raw character in spades. While the Clio may lack the Mini's irresistible showroom appeal, in practice, it's more fun and sensible. We just can't praise it emough"

    Free mag!? What free mag?

subscribers only? I cancelled mine after having to wait 2 and a half weeks for a COTY issues after the local newsagent got it.

Is "Team Wheels" membership worth it?

Geeez, i dunno, those Mini2 forums were saying otherwise
oh, and that single article they put up (Alan canned the post).

Good to see that the frenchies are surviving the ol "hindsight" test... unlike the BMW Z3... When they released the Z4 there were many "ummm yeah, actually the Z3 was a bit of a dud huh..."

Apparently not subscribers at all, going by my experience.

If you buy it at Borders it comes with a free magazine of 2003/4 road tests (which I paid something like $8 for a few months back)

Isn't offered at other newsagents though.

In a Safeway magazine rack I saw both magazines together, sealed in plastic.

I'd love to, but it's Mini-negative and the bubble boys and girls would get upset and pull it....

    and for Alan's sanity(and 134 PM's), I'll steer well clear of that...

Besides, I lost any ounce of respect for mini2 owners when I read this on the Mini2 forum...

This was refering to a Pug I think...

...as far as handling goes anything that picks a back wheel up so easily isn't exactly brilliant is it, 25% grip gone straight out the window
Obviously a brain is not a pre-requisite for Mini ownership....

And the worst thing is, nobody corrected her, so most Mini2 owners must assume this to be correct.....either that or they were to busy drinking double decaf mocha latte's on chapel street...Being such a good driving road and all...
