    Default Car Makes & Location

I have some nifty software and data here based on the 2003 Motor Vehicle Census, I thought some of you would find the data interesting.

    Victoria

If you want to find a Peugeot, it's best to go to Hawthorn area (3122) with 308 cars there. It also happens to have the most Volvos in Melbourne too, 472 cars (no prizes for guessing where Volvo's top selling dealer downunder is) Great place I have to say

If you want to find a Citroen, go to the Richmond (3121) area, with 47 vehicles. This is also the home of Renault fans with 131 cars.

More SAAB drivers will be found in Brighton (3186) than anywhere else with 317 cars there.

For our Lada freaks, there's always 3350 or Ballarat - 21 can be found in that area, almost twice as much as the second place. Shane, you're in good company

Desperate to find a Ford - go to Preston (3172) with 8877 cars. Holden fans can also be found there with 9240 cars.

We have 15,662 Peugeots, 4,735 Renaults and 2,039 Citroens registered here.

    New South Wales

It's no surprise we have members from Mosman, postcode 2088 has more Peugeots than any other in NSW with 265. You also love your SAABs, being the number one SAAB suburb of NSW with 311 cars. More Bloody Volvo Drivers there than anywhere else too, with 400 cars. All these Swedish cars, I think I better move there Then again, there are more BMWs there than anywhere else with 1075 cars.

More Cits can be found in the Sydenham/Tempe area (2044) than anywhere else in NSW, with 101 cars.

Renaults are most likely to be found in the Hornsby/Asquith (2077) area with 60 cars located there.

In NSW there are 15,407 Peugeots, 3,771 Renaults and 3,533 Citroens registered.

    Western Australia

Here are the top suburbs for the various makes.

323 Renaults can be found in East Perth (6004)
87 Peugeots can be found in Subiaco (6008)
30 Citroens can be found in the Bickley/Carmel/Gooseberry Hill (6076) area.

I've always been suspicious of WA's love for Volvos. It turns out that in the Dalkeith/Crawley area that there are more Volvos than any other postcode in the country, 459 cars. No surprise really, Volvo is the second most common European make in WA with 13,111 cars, second only to Mercedes.

    2244 Peugeots.
    1678 Renaults.
    533 Citroens.

    South Australia

South Australians won't be surprised to know that the home of Taylor's, SA's sole Pug dealer, also happens to have more Pugs and Cits than anywhere else in SA Medindie (5081) has 103 Peugeots and 15 Cits registered.

For Renaults, you'll have to head over to Broadview/Sefton Park (5083) with 40 cars.

There are 2622 Peugeots, 1258 Renaults & 377 Citroens registered in SA.

    Northern Territory

Somehow there are 54 Pugs, 14 Cits and 22 Renaults in the NT.

    ACT

    1,227 Peugeots.
    753 Renaults.
    238 Citroens.

    Tasmania

Tasmanians love their Toyotas, with 70,275 on the road, beating Holden on 55,164 cars.

You'll find 1,464 Peugeots there, 434 Renaults and 91 Citroens there.

    National

Ever wondered how many frogs are registered on the roads? As of 2003:

    44,802 Peugeots (20th)
    14,083 Renaults (29th)
Citroen doesn't register in the top 30, beaten by the likes of Proton (15,507) & MG (13,467). That will change, I'm sure.

Fortunately, there are still 84,583 Volvos on the roads

    Hope you found this interesting.

A helping factor in the Hornsby/Asquith figure would be that what I consider to be Sydney's best Renault dealer (mentioned in another thread recently) serves this area.

    Oops, I forgot about QLD

I'll get round to it sometime later, as I don't have the data on this computer.

This ABS data is based on registration figures, so it's much more accurate than a survey.

    6,607 Peugeots.
    2,160 Renaults.
    1,508 Citroens.

4350 is the most common place for Pugs with 259 examples and Cits with 58 examples. You're in good company, second highest number of Volvos in the country, 539 cars (I forgot to check QLD's stats when I made that statement about WA) It's a huge area though, encompassing Toowoomba, Athol, Blue Mountain Heights, Darling Heights, Cranley, Eastlake, Mount Lofty, Newtown, Redwood, Picnic Point, Wilsonton, etc.

146 Renaults in 4870 which is the Cairns area.

    They have 1,582 306s in Queensland and 17 sods bought a 607

Always known there's a heap of Cits up in the Hills so that didnt surprise me. Interesting to see that the gap between Peugeot & Renault is a lot less than other states per capita. I'd say thats down to a better rural network from Renaults 2nd last attempt. Even now we have 2 Renault dealers & only 1 for Peugeot. Any chance of getting breakdown on models? The Citroen figure is interesting, almost 100 of our figure would be privately imported 2CV's, we seem to have a lot more than most states of these vehicles. Thanks for posting figures, interesting stuff. I look forward to the bit in the future where Citroen overtakes Renault in Oz! Any West Aussies out there would have to agree this seems a bit strange though "323 Renaults can be found in East Perth (6004)"???? Surely thats because Budget or Delta have there HQ there perhaps? No way that is private buyers? East perth only has 6000 residents.

Thats strange I know of at least 5 XM's still on the road in WA. I have also seen 3 different 607's as well. I didnt realise that many Xsaras had found homes here. I thought the Berlingo would be quite popular as well.

Bear in mind, as I noted, there are 386 undesignated Citroens.

It's quite likely that there are more cars now, the figures released this year are based on 2003 data.

Hmm, no coincidence either that the highest concentration of Renaults was in the postcode of the sole SA Renault dealer at Nailsworth 5083. All that unsold stock in their yard :-). Although it was also the postcode of the second largest volume selling Renault dealer in the 1970's too.

Interesting to note also that at least around 9000 odd Renaults have bitten the dust over the last 12 years. Volvo also took on the distribution of parts for the older models (previous to 19 and Laguna) back in 1991 based on that there were 25,000 odd Renaults circulating around the country back then. As around 13,500 newer than 1991 Renaults are now circulating around, the less common sighting of old 12's is obviously confirmed.
