Default WRC 2020 season has started

As usual the WRC season has crept up on us again. The opening Monte Carlo round is happening this weekend. Last years champion Oto Tanak had a huge crash which has even made the television new bulletins,
    Some points of interest...............

    1) Citroen appears to be no longer taking part as a factory team (there were rumours of this late last year). Looks like there are a couple of private C3 entries though.

    2) Sebastian Ogier is now driving for the Toyota GAZOO team.

    3) There is no Australian in round Coffs Harbour this year, with New Zealand being restored to the calendar in September.

    4) Sebastian Loeb is again driving for the Hyundai team.

Looks like Citroen's glory days are sadly over for the time being.

Yeah, Tanak had huge one, end for ended the Huyndai several times at 180 kmph. Both are ok but taken to hospital overnight for observation.

The car seem to need a buff

Additional changes for this year, Safari Rally in Kenya is in Mid July and Rally of Japan is back on the calendar as the last round of the season

Greensmith off at Monte Carlo. Talk about a novice blunder, pick one, wrong tyres, no traction and on the rev limiter, foot flat to the floor isn't always the best solution.

Few more offs. Looks bit slippery. Contrast the driving styles of those with experience vs without

All the Fords had overheating issues early in the rally caused by leaves getting caught and blocking the radiator airflow. The problem was fixed by installing mesh which stopped the build up of leaves.

Sunninen had a transmission failure in his Ford.

Takamoto Katsuta in the Toyota hit rock bank on the opening stage, but managed to finish the stage

Sebestian Loeb ran off the road on Section 14. Spectators helped him back on the road. This slip let Lappi through into 4th spot

Tanak and navigator were released from hospital after overnight observation. Tanak's off was caused by a slight bump in the road upsetting the car balance. Tanak attributed the off to notes. I am pleased that it had nothing to do with his desire to stamp his authority in a new car on the new team and rival who is arguably as quick as he is.

Some of the Sunday stages are still to be run.

I gather he has some experience with ice and snow.

He competed in the Lapland Arctic rally in the WRC Toyota before the start of the WRC season, which he won. This is the same Rally that Bottas has competed last year and this year.

Here is Kalle getting some of that winter driving experience at age 9.
